[h=1]New vehicle sales down for 13th straight month in Canada[/h]

DesRosier Automotive Consulting is reporting declining new vehicle sales in Canada during the month of March. The drop of 2.5% in March continues the downward trend that began in the same month last year, and marks the 13th consecutive month of decreases.Sales figures reached 181,800 units for the month, down from 186,447 units recorded in March 2018 resulting in March 2019 grabbing third highest position for all March sales on record, behind 2018 and 2017.Total passenger car sales decreased 10.1% while light trucks just managed to remain positive ( up 0.6%).First quarter sales stopped short of 2018’s 429,258 units and settled at 411,465 units thus far in 2019, a decrease of 4.1%. The market share of light trucks nearly reached three quarters of the market in the first quarter with a breakdown of 74.3% light trucks to 25.7% passenger cars.Ford claimed top spot for sales volume in March, recording a total of 27,915 unit sales, growing 7.2% year-over-year. This increase allowed Ford to push ahead of General Motors which held the top spot last March, but has since decreased 18.4%. With FCA sales also down 11.5%, Ford has secured a notable lead over their long-time competitors.March double digit sales increases were recorded by Genesis (up 82.5%), Mitsubishi (up 42.4%), Infiniti (up 14.1%), and Honda (up 12.0%) which performed well despite the overall market situation.Exactly half of all reporting brands noted positive sales for March with 13 increases against 13 decreases. In the first quarter overall, only 10 brands recorded sales increases.

Not surprising at all.
Provincial and federal govts hell bent on destroying our economy and those caksuckers are unfortunately doing a good job.
This is just the start.....just wait till the mighty housing market crashes.

The wife and I looked at a few vehicles this week,.. hard to have payments again. She really likes the Subaru Forester Limited,.. but is hesitant to pull the trigger.

I looked at new cars too. Like you we haven’t had a payment (for many years).
Wanting great fuel mileage and low buy in I found a 2018 Honda Civic sedan with the turbo for a great price and only 7,000kms.
I liked my last Honda and am really liking this new in and the 6.2/100 in averaging.
Happy I am.

In 15000 km the av is at 8.2 l per 100 km, that includes all winter

Got a slt so doesn't have all the doo dads to go bad

Twice the suv of the older chassis

According to vehicle loyalty stats, Subaru is right near the top of the "definitely going to buy another." A friend buys them with high mileage and does the repairs - they have four of them (one for each kid plus his own). I think looking for a recent low miler is probably the best bang for your buck. I am impatient so buy new but generally keep them long enough it doesn't matter as the extra depreciation is spread out over an extra 3 or four years.

I like a lot of things about the Subaloos. But their ancient, inferior engine technology is just too ugly for me to pay for.

yup, Subaru like Volvo have their specific clientele. We have many families and his and hers are both subarus. I'm amazed at how many families are like that.

There's a house about a block from me where I've counted FIVE Volvos parked outside at various times over a week.
