We have added Ryan Thompson as one of our test riders this year. Ryan is Western Editor for American Snowmobiler and a professional photographer. Ryan did a photo shoot of the 2019 sleds back in March and this is one that had a Laser Phantom Teth-Air installed.

I have been granted access to nearly 600 photos of 19 sleds on the snow so if you are itching to see some please let me know.

Yes we will have a working Laser Phantom Teth-Air at our booth. The above video is the old capacitance style and the new with the laser is much simpler install and operation. The older capacitance style is still the best choice for 4 strokes and snow bikes though. I will have one on my KTM at the show too.

No, There are 3 conditions that must be met for a "loss of control" shut down.

1. The track must be turning. 2. Your hand is not at the throttle and is not seen by the laser proximity sensor. 3. The proximity timer has timed down. (you set the timer for your riding style 0.5 seconds to 3 seconds) quicker is safer, longer lets you remove your hand for longer periods without shutdown like when you want to do a Superman!

Also there is a roll-over shutdown that is activated when over more than 90 degrees and the roll-over timer times down. (0.5-3 seconds also)

The two timers are easily set with the supplied remote control and once you set them the way you like, you won't change them. We usually ride with 1 to 1.5 seconds delay for both timers.

If the sled is started upside down, the roll-over shutdown is put in stand-by but comes back on after 20 seconds of the sled being upright.

The trackspeed to arm is adjustable too but we recommend best speeds for each brand of sled. Also on start up the proximity timer is ignored and the sled will shut down as soon as the track starts spinning if your hand is not present. Why is this important? Imagine you have the top of the line corded tether and you always hook it to your body before you start your sled. This time you are starting your sled in a trailer, garage or on a truck deck for example. You start the motor and for some reason the throttle is stuck wide open. (On some models this shouldn't happen due to ECM programming but with snow trapped in the flipper this still can happen) Anyway the sled goes at full speed for 3-4 feet before the cord gets pulled. This can cause a lot of damage or injuries, especially when in a confined space or with people in front of the sled.

Now with the Phantom Teth-Air as soon as the track spins and if your hand is not present it will shut down. Much faster than waiting for the cord to stretch to its max length. Additionally if you have kids that ride or are forgetful yourself, this system is automatic, working everytime you start up without the rider having to go through the hook-up procedure.

We rode this last year at CKMP along with the 19 Freeride, the 600 definitely feels a lot lighter then the 850 but it still seems to be lacking in the top end. It's geared totally different then the 850 so it's very snappy off the line, it was a blast to ride but for the minimal price difference it will be a hard sell.
