The snow mobile was first invented by Carl Eliason in 1924 and later patented his designs in 1927. Forty of his snow mobiles were made.

Sayner, Wisconsin

Sayner is an unincorporated community in the town of Plum Lake in Vilas County, Wisconsin. It is located at the intersection of Highway 155 and County N, about 15 miles northwest of Eagle River.

Sayner is home to the Vilas County Historical Society.

The community is the birthplace of the snowmobile, with the first "motor toboggan" built by Carl Eliason in 1924.[1] Snowmobilers from neighboring Eagle River and St. Germain visit Sayner in the winter months.
