i have a tracker dts.......not sure on how old it is now. Ive used it since 08 (use to borrow it from my cousin and his avy gear then bought all of it off of him cause he stopped mountain riding). I see they still sell it......but should it be replaced? tech is changing all the time, getting better.... Thoughts?

Old beacons work too. First thing I'd do is research actual tests online determining search signals. When taking out Avy Courses a few years back we were shown the difference with some of the beacons, huge difference, life changing if your under the snow.
The next thing is the simplicity, studies have shown that constant practice makes you better but a very easy to operate beacon helps too.
Finally, if in search mode does it automatically return to send if the beacon stops moving, this is important if you happen to get caught in a second Avy.

Just my two cents worth and the reasons I updated my last beacon.
My life and life of my fellow riders depends on that beacon of tragedy strikes.

Sent from my Phone while sitting on the side of the road.....maybe.

Check to see if BCA has or will update, I know with the Barryvox Pulse reccommed a system check and upgrade every four years and it's like $35..
One of ours we sent in, it appeared to be working, they felt was under performing, they replaced it for the check over fee....

Do a range check, do a practice search, compare the results with other transceivers. are you comfortable with using the functions?
If all these check out, it should be good to go.....
Oh one more thing......
Ask your riding buddies if you should buy a new one!
After all, that is the tool you will be using to find them should someone make a mistake!!!

Do a range test on it to make sure it it transmitting at full strength still. If it is it will make a good spare/buddy transceiver but it would be good for you to move into a 3 antenna transceiver as that is now the standard.

The tracker dts only has two antenna, most new beacons have 3 or 4(the 4th to check the other 3). that beacon has about 1/2 the range as the new digital ones. The CAC used to have a obsolete equipment list but with there new site I can't see it anymore. I would suggest getting a new beacon and using that one for practise.
