I had some heat problems as well although I am running a 3" 174 track but the one thing that helped out was to gear it down to m8 gears and while I was at it I did the bearing upgrade and cleaned my dd which I do every year as maintenence. I then ran a variable helix 46/36 and a special skidoo spring, a black purple purple. I have been very happy with my clutching so far. Oh and if you have the crappy white rollers change them out asap with rok rollers. This setup will work with your shorter track as well and you will gain trackspeed guaranteed.
Straight 38 with a red white secondary spring. Titanium cat primary spring. Make sure your belt deflection is always set perfect. It takes only a few mins to shim the secondary. Cutler adjustable weights for perfect rpm. I ran than on 2 sleds thousands of miles each and it worked awesome for me.
Proper clutch alignment. Ensure the motor is offset the proper way to allow shims to be added/subbed behind the secondary. They are all different no matter what people tell you. Especially when you have a dealer do your engine.
Check the play between the towers and spider. Excess in this case won't help you spell success.
Check the play between the fixed and moveable sheaves in BOTH the primary and secondary. Excess is as above.
Check your rollers. Flat spots don't let the rollers roll. Cracked ones don't roll well either.
Gearing. Deep snow I run 59-61 for the trackspeed. Spring I go with M7.
Venting. Lots.
primary. speedwerx H5 330 pounder. I'm still playing with my MDS weights, didn't like them in the spring unfortunately. I think overall mine are too light.
secondary. 42-36. m7 style open end adjustable helix, reverse notched. Team red pink compression with the assist bearing. Didn't like 42-38. Didn't like straight 38 other than on my GF's m8.
There's a zillion posts on this subject- be it on this site or the snowest site, happy searching...
