I've seen 06's for as low as $5k. I think the problem is you have to spend roughly 1500 - 2000 on them to get them reliable and running right.

I would say between $5500-6500 is a decent price for this machine. Hopefully it doesn't need to much TLC, I have owned an 05 900 since new and am still riding it, and really like it. You do have to spend a bit of money to make them run better, cooler, more realiable. All in all I would say the 900s got a pretty bad rap so I wouldn't let everything you hear sway your decision too much but I'm not saying run out and buy one either. Here are the suggested mods I have done to my machine, hopefully the recalls are done these include different motor mounts, gas filler neck, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

Some of these mods may be done already so hopefully you won't need to do all of them, these costs are approx.

Venting- $350 (2-cool air vents, SLP, Fire n' Ice) cooler clutches and motor
Clutch- $200 (different helix, weights) quicker engagement, cooler clutch
Air Intake- $400 (SLP, Fire n' Ice, Timbersled) weight savings, runs better
Can - $300 (SLP, MBRP) weight savings
Gearing - $100 (Polaris parts) utilizes tourque of motor
Scratchers -$50 (Shop around, sled show is a good place) cools motor
Total $1400

This list doesn't include everything I've done or can be done, (riser, track drilled, snow eliminators, etc.) all work done was done by me so no labour incorporated into these costs. A lot of these mods I would do to any other sled I have owned, or will own, so are not inclusive to just this machine. Might have gone a little off topic but just giving you a heads up as to what you might be looking at for overall cost. Sledobsessed I just noticed in your notes that you're not afraid to do a little modding of your own so hopefully I didn't make this to pre-school for you. pm if you have more detailed questions.

Polarisryder, I have removed the radiator I put in a Vanamburg air intake originally, then went with the SLP , when I bought the sled new in 05, there were not the options there are now for intake kits for these machines. I was having a lot of trouble with the Vanamburg plugging with snow, the SLP seems a lot better but does occasionally bog down in that deep Blue River POW of yours. I have heard nothing but good about the fire n' ice intake for these machines problem is you have to buy a new polaris air intake and I can't justify paying $160 US plus shipping and then another $300 for the fire n'ice, when the SLP seems to work pretty well. By the way Vanamburg no longer makes the intake so that might say something in itself. In my previous post I did not mention motor mounts or torque arm/push arm that is a whole different thread. Also use the 115 belt always, just my 2 cents.

I picked up an 05 900 for 4500 out of the states last year. I did alot of research on the internet before I bought it and made sure that it had all the updates done to it. If you do look at one make sure it has the updates and everything done to in that Lanko said.

They are not the bad sled they are out to be. Best sled on the market right now for its price. The 900 feels like its going to rip your arms out of your shoulders right from the very bottom of the throttle. Very fun sled to ride. Mine has 2500 miles on it and I put 200 on it last year and the only problem it gave me was a set of spark plugs.

Lanko seems to know what he is talking about , by now if you find one they have done all the update & mods that should be done to make the 900s a reliable sled. back to the question you should pay 4500 to 5500 but they were only built 05 & 06

still have mine, should not ever need a new model i can run with any sled made today setup the same way it is worth the money

grow ur fingernails you will need them

ride hard, go deep & have fun

A few add ons to this list:

1. A throttle/oiler cable from Fatboyzfrenchy - $85+shipping
2. Either an SLP push arm and torque arm or Compfusion motor mounts...Compfusion is better but more expensive
3. Use the FNI intake...Timbersled sucks hot vapor and SLP can ruin an engine by taking a stick through the front end
4. Can - HPS is much lighter than the SLP and better sounding
5. Gearing - 19/42 use your stock chain
6. As many vents as possible:d
7. No matter what intake, remove the front radiator

I'll get the correct helix and springs and post them later on:beer:

I would say around 6000 would be a fair price unless the tlc is extensive, try to price out what you would have to replace, repair, and take that into account when purchasing.

Though I agree with all of the mods everyone is listing you don't have to be afraid of running them stock as long as all of the Polaris updates have been done. (all free of charge) My family has 4 05 900's 2 longtracked Fusions a Switchback and an RMK. We have owened them since new and other than the Polaris updates have not spent a dollar on them other than accessories and regular maintenance. I do however recommed always running the best belt Polaris has for them, since swithching we have not blown a single one. Its a couple hundred bucks but dont cheap out, just buy it!

Probably true with the exception of vents...you MUST add vents to cool the clutches:beer:

I agree with all you guys, I think the 900 got a bad rap and it was all because of those cheap ass recalls, someone at polaris should have been fired over that, my 900 vibrates from the top to the bottom and back (its those big ass pistons) the only reason I updated and I had hoped polaris would come with a 1000 was my kid will ride the big dog, There ain't nothing like a big block I think my 06 900rmk151 has to be worth at least 5500.

has anyone replaced their oil tank? Brett i dont know if you changed anything but dwight said he broke 2 oil tanks, and then used a zip tie instead of a bolt, so im thinking it was breaking that top oil tank mount on the tank. Im going to get him to look at my rmk when i see him so i can maybe fix mine before it happens. I cant believe he bought a xp, what a trader. And he still wears his polaris coat haha

Hey Ryan, no we have never had any issues with our oil tanks on any of our 4, but I know Dwight did like you say. Then again we don't quite put ours through the paces quite as hard as Dwight does. Did Adam ever have any issues with his? Guess Dwight has to save his $$$ to fix that xp so he still has to wear his old Polaris coat :d

Dwight said hes going to candle over christmas so ill have to see what that xp has got. I think its a renegade so hes probably got alot more top end than my rmk. But im sure ill roast him off the line noo problem
