So I am in the market for a dirtbike. Having some issues with deciding exactly which way to go here. Intend to ride lots of trails, but as time goes on, will be pretty likely jumping the thing. There are no tracks around here, but the idea of racing does peak my interest. This has caused the following conundrum;

1. 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. I am not afraid of maintence, but dont want to wrench every day

2. 125CC vs 250CC. We have some hill climbs around here, so I lean towards the 250 2 stroke.

3. MX vs Enduro bike. This is my biggest hiccup, I can't seem to decide which would suit me better.

I have not owned a dirtbike in many years, the last one I had was 100CC 4 stroke. Don't have a pile of seat time in a 250 2 stroke, but don't want to get bored and need to sell this years and buy a new bike next year. Brand is not important, we have good dealers for Yamaha, Honda and Kawasaki in town, so I would like to lean that way as far as retrieving parts is concerned.

Thoughts?

I love my CR 250 as i can know every nut and bolt inside and out. A 4 stroke would be nice for the extra torque but in know nothing about the motor and now they are all fuel injected so if something happens, off to the dealer it goes. I would recommend a 250 2 stroke, it will scare you a few times but they become easy to predict the power band. There are a lot of older 4 strokes for sale and people say "less maintenance" which is BS!! The motors last longer but its $800 or so to do a top end where as a 2 stroke is around $250.

I would recommend a 450 4 stroke enduro!! Only thing to worry about is changing the oil. More power then you would need and they sound sekzy!!

Most of the younger guys I know ride 250 2 smokers, and love them. I've always been more of a 4 stroker myself. My only advice to you is kickstands are awesome, and electric start doesn't make you a puzzy...well maybe it does, but I don't care. I only have a couple hours on my WR450, but so far, it's the nicest bike I've ever owned.

i would say a 250 4 stroke,more than enough power and more nimble than a 450.3/4 the poeple i ride with have 250 4 strokes,a few have either a 200 or 300 2 smoker ktm's and a few with 450's
