With all the wet weather this summer, there is a lot of water standing around out west. I am asking those of you heading out for the long weekend be respectful of the trails and camping nodes. The ground is saturated and quite susceptible to rutting and damage.

Please keep in mind that Alberta still lacks a designated trail management system; meaning there is no maintenance or stewardship program. The extra damage caused by these types of conditions on the few trails that do have stewards puts unnecessary burdens on the limited resources of the volunteers.
The rest of the trails will continue to degrade until a provincial program is put in place.

Everybody have a great long weekend and stay safe.
Cheers
Cal

You do realize that 85 % of the so called trails, are seismic lines cut and tramped from way back

Alberta isn't Ontario yet so there not trails really

Looks like another cheaply wet weekend coming up for us around Drayton. Usually wouldn't bother me but cold and wet limits being outside too much with a newborn!

I think that was his whole point Tex. We have no plan of action for maintaining the condition of these "trails" so it is important for us to tread lightly.

The
o.p is the head of the aohva. And has our best interests in mind with his post if we as a whole don't change our ways we are going to be screwed by the government and media even worse as its only the 1% of azzhats that make the news and give ammunition to the leaf lickers and granolas to get areas and trails shut down IMO

While out west ( rocky area) it was unreal how many trees were down ! Lots of big black poplars , must of been a hell of a storm .. The chain saws got a real work out ... To say the least. Some were 2 ' thick .

Just a reminder to cut them back at least 6 ' wide as a bare minimum, wider if possible !
The grass is so heavy this year , they are hiding a lot of dangerous trees / roots and sticks just waiting to poke machine and or rider....
so be safe and cut them back enough as to not hurt machine or rider .... Thanks to those doing it the right way !!
