Weight difference on 2012 vs 2014 HCR?

I am hearing conflicting things about the weight drop on the 2012-14 HCR 800.
I know on the standard M series they eliminated the rear heat exchanger and some other stuff and managed to drop something like 20 Lbs. Now on the HCR the rear exchanger was never there, so how much did the 2014 actually shed off vs the 2012?
Also have been having a bitch of a time keeping consistent RPM on my 12 HCR, I am guessing my problems are in the clutching, seams as when it warms up it drops 4-600 rpm at times.

My 2012 800 was doing the same when clutch's were warm, call Brent Linderman Arctic Edge Motorsports, he built a plate that will fix your issue.

Here is some info I collected....hope this helps:

Features on model year 13.....In no real order here is a list of changes for the M8 sleds:


  • TCL
    • Same thickness on both sides of TCL.
    • Added relief to radius of webbing.
    • Increased thickness of webbing.
  • Engine base plate is now 2 pieces, Plate is also thinner.
  • Exhaust side belly pan:
    • Increased exhaust resonator clearance.
    • Redesigned muffler outlet seal with less rivets and better seal contact.
  • Air boot Extension:
    • Longer boot to eliminate the need for a foam seal into the hood.
    • Also a longer seam to help strengthen.
  • Airbox seal:
    • Foam seal is removed for 2013 and the rubber seal is improved.
  • Oil tank filler neck is now shorter and more vertical. This allows for
    better venting through the cap.
  • Cable tie added to keep oil line from getting pinched while installing the muffler.
  • Clearance on pipe heat shield for the duct work that brings cool air to the drive clutch and driven pulley.
  • Now has a hose on the fitting of the coolant filler neck that routes the overflowed fluid out of the engine compartment.
  • HCR and M8 Limited:
    • Light weight brake disk 0.9 lbs. lighter than standard disc.
    • New 1 piece design heat exchanger:. Ice scratchers will be required in hard pack conditions.
    • 103 lb. drive clutch engagement spring rate, produces a smoother
      belt engagement at 2800 rpm (p/n 0646-252)
    • All models that do not come with a larger tunnel storage bag,
      comes with a belt storage bag.
    • On the bottom of the dash air intakes:
      • New FrogSkinz design for better adhesion. They are cut differently
        in the corners to lay flatter and not wrinkle.
    • Tie rod location moved forward 0.625” for tighter turning radius.
      • Spindle machined to allow clearance for the sharper turn.
      • The option of choosing multiple tie rod locations has been omitted.
    • Ski stance changed to a narrower 38” stance.
      • HCR 800 Remains 42”
    • Steering range is 17.5% wider at the same degree of handlebar
      throw. Steering effort is increased but still less than the old M.
    • No drive clutch fan on any model for 2013.
    • Tri-hub wheel Will be all plastic like the ProCross Models.
    • Track remains 3.0 Pitch.
      • Lug Height Changes from 2.25” to 2.6”.
      • 85 Duro on HCR Only.
    • Driven shaft is now shot peened to prevent from being fractured.
    • Increased control for the ID to OD of the bushings in the drive
      clutch to keep them from moving.
    • Driven clutch movable Sheave bearing changed from a DU bearing to a Vespel Bearing.
    • Because of the heavy loads and high temperatures seen with
      mountain riding and boondocking, a drive belt was developed to
      better suit this riding style.
    • Spacer added to keep the drive belt from bottoming out in the driven
      pulley.
    • New material for driven clutch rollers
    • Left Hand belly pan:
      • Pocket added for side panel to fit securely. Less snow ingestion and adds strength to the side panel to help against touching the drive clutch during aggressive riding.
      • Screen changed to a tighter grid to prevent snow ingestion through the air ducting.
      • A thumb screw and speed nut is now used to keep the side panel
        from flexing and allowing snow in.
      • Added support to cooling duct, behind screen area and also to aid with a tighter fit when the left hand side panel is closed.
    • Clutch Alignment is now 1.450. Use alignment bar (p/n 0644-588)
    • New procedure during assembly of the driven shaft and locking collar.







Features on model year 2014 M8000 models include:

  • Lightweight ski spindles deliver a nearly 1-lb. weight reduction
  • New seat shape featuring reduced height and length, with built-in storage compartment and reduced weight (Sno Pro & non-ES Limited)
  • Improved ergonomics on running boards for easy snow evacuation, with rear bumper machining for more boot clearance
  • Lightweight driveshaft, drive sprockets and aluminum bottom gear in chaincase (Sno Pro & Limited)
  • New lightweight brake disc (Sno Pro) and race-version master cylinder on
  • the RMC hydraulic brake for enhanced braking
  • ProClimb chassis weight reduction: Aluminum spars (instead of steel); HCR heat exchanger system (Sno Pro)
  • Skidframe weight reduction: Lightweight aluminum axles; lightweight shock bushings and new rail cap
  • Arctic Cat IFP rebuildable gas front arm shock in skidframe
  • New FOX FLOAT 3 ski shocks feature improved air valve access for easier pressure adjustments (Sno Pro & Limited)
  • Increased fuel capacity (to 11.5 gallons on Sno Pro and Limited; and 12 gallons on Limited ES)
  • Lightweight ski shock bushings and 8mm suspension hardware (instead of 10mm hardware)
  • Ice-scratchers come standard (Sno Pro & Limited)
  • New visible coolant reservoir for easy inspection and built-in spark plug holder
  • New fixed clutch guard for added durability and reduced weight
  • More durable cover for brake disc
  • New driven clutch sheave with larger cooling fins reduce drive belt temperature for improved performance and durability
  • Rear-mounted spare belt bag (Sno Pro)
  • 19/50 gearing for improved performance
