Well the travel group wants to go somewhere warm in January. I am the only sledder in the travel group so I am usually out voted!

Anyway rather than do a cruise this year they want to go and stay somewhere. They want to go farther south than normal. Have been looking like St. Lucia type of location.

I have never actually went and stayed anywhere on an island we usually just see them for the day.

Any recommendation out there? Seems like crusing is cheaper for what you get maybe we should just do that again. Would be nice to do something new though.

If you are in the west, which you are, I would suggest Hawaii as well. You can get direct flights to Maui from Calgary, and possibly Edmonton. Gorgeous place, and depending on your group you can actually do it fairly cheap by renting a condo instead of staying in a resort.

I would second Hawaii, but put in for the BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII. so Kona. We will be there for break-up in April for the 3rd time (every 2nd year). Largest island in the chain, small population, and if you don't mind a 45min drive to get to a beach where its just you and the waves and turtles, then you are good. We love it. Rent a car and go.

I would also reccommend a little known spot, Roatan. It is an island off the coast of Honduras. Buddy of mine used to live there. If you are big on scuba diving, you won't beat it anywhere in the world other than Australia. very very nice spot. Did that trip a couple times for 2 weeks each.

Big island is really nice too. Only thing to say about Hawaii is, AVOID OAHU! Honolulu is not worth going to.

Fawk no kidding. Avoid Oahu like the plague. Tourist trap, over built, sketchy areas. Pearl harbor memorial is i think awesome. But the rest of the island, garbage.
But then again, if a person didn't know any better, they'd think it was the best. When in reality, it isn't, at all.
