Yes you can.

so there is no mechanical connection for the system to work then, it's the exhaust that operates the valve, against the pressure of the spring and bellows ?

Yes but you will have to modify your exhaust.

Youll have to cut your flanges and point them downward and reweld them so they clear the valves.
