Looking at hitting up Vega.
I've never been there before.

where exactly is the staging area?
is it on the East side or west side of the river?

I've found some directions on line. looks like I can take 661 through Neerlandia or jump onto it via Fort Assiniboine.

Nothing really says exactly where the staging area is.

also how many Km's is the system up there? Beginner rider here.

thanks

Can access either way, Klondike ferry crosses the river if you decide to come from 661 and will save you 20 min driving time. Plenty of trails but usually full of users. Should be fine this time of year. If I were to guess 100k of trail system, but like anywhere else in alberta cut lines branching off. Stagging is on the west side. You can camp at the Klondike ferry and travel over daily.

The ferry might be out of the water right now. I would go north of Fort Assiniboin this time of the year. You can only ride on the north side of the road as the south is closed to ohv. Lots of trails going everywhere! But if you are not on a dirt bike or sport quad don't expect to much as the whoops get super gay after awhile. There's not many people that know the area as well as me. I grew up in Barrhead and rode Vega all the time. Pm me if you want some info on some nice hills off the beaten track.

I am going to launch my boat at the ferry Sunday so I will be able to tell you if it's still going.

I'm on a side by side.
The whoops at red water can suck. Are there some good play areas up there?

If you want a better ride with a sxs keep going north on 661 and instead of turning onto the Sandhills road keep going north. Keep going till you hit a power line (big power line) follow the road along the power line till the road takes you under it. Then you end up at a locked gate that you have to unload at and take the sxs. You go with the sxs down that road till you can't go any farther and you can go north or south either way is some great trails. North you can work your way to the river on nice trails. There's an old cabin back there if you do some exploring and a nice lake. It's a better ride IMO with a sxs then Vega.

The ferry is supposed to run until Nov 14 BUT that could depend on weather too.
