What would the maximum age for somebody to run a Z-120 snowmobile. Would like to get one for my son, who is seven years old and approx 75lbs. He rides one of the 50cc knockoff quads without any problem. Thanks Mark:d

well i think he would out grow it way to fast , when i was like 8 or 9 my parents bought me an indy sport 440, and it was a nice size for me, but for your boy, woy dont you try finding an old ski doo, like a 300 or some thing. he wont out grow those for a while, and plus they are akways fun to jump on and go for a rip around the yard :D

My son is 8 and has completley lost interest in his z-120. He has riden it for 3 seasons and I'm afraid its gonna end up collecting dust this year. The problem for me is that the next jump up from a 120 seems to be a bit too large for an 8 year old, or is it?? I think it depends on the kid. If he/she has minimal experience on a sled than the 120 would probably doo for a season or two. My son also races motocross in the summer so jumping on the little 120 to him seems a little boring.
What is a good upgrade from a z-120 for the kids?

My son is 8 and I think this will be his last seaon on his 120, as he will out grow it. It looks like the 550 for Polaris, 570 for Arctic Cat or the 550 fan from Ski-Doo or a phaser from Yamaha are our only choices for new, I guess a tundra one cylinder may doo, but going from 120 to 550 is crazy! I believe all brands have dropped their 340 or 440's, how is the sport going to grow?

Personally I would start your son with the 120, even if it is for one season, it will give him some experience.

Thats just :Snowmobile1: My 2 cents.

Our 8 year old rides a 340. He got really bored of the 120 about 2 years ago. Arctic Cat makes a nice little 370 fan cooled. Hard to find I am guessing though :)

First of all a "stock Z120" or any other stock minis can only satisfy the kids up to about 4 or 5 years old if they just want to play around. If they are a bit older and like to actually ride and jump, pull tobbogans with their friends draggin behind, then the sled needs a few "MUST" tweeks. First, eliminate the govenern spring set up. PM me if you want to know how to do it properly, with out paying for a governor by pass kit. Eliminate the stock chain tensioner, replace with REC motorsports aluminum/composite sprocket unit. PM me again. Lean out the factory carb settings, adjust the throttle cable so that it actually lets the thing open up and feed..

As far as a 7 year old goes? I'd say get him one. He'll have a blast for a few years. I have watched my boys pound around on these things since 2001 and I have no regrets. They also ride a mini quad (a Polaris but don't tell anyone). :d

My oldest boy is over due for a bigger sled. Looking for a F5 this year, or something along those lines. :)

I bought my daughter a 300 Freestyle at 8. It was the perfect transition sled for her. She is know 11 and rides a 550 Backcountry. If it wasn't for trips to the mtns - I think that the 300 would have suited her fine even now.

Some pics on the 300 - 8 yrs old.

I totally skipped the Z-120 and went back to the old elan 250. My boy is only 4 but it will be awhile before he grows out of it. There a great learner sled, little bit bigger sled so he gets used to a bigger style sled before he gets an upgrade.
