Av gas will store for over 2 years in a sealed metal drum
for aviation purposes it has to be tested after a year and then again after another year and it will usually pass 2 tests minimum
from what I was told at blue wave who sells it

Never EVER leave a drum of any type outside in the elements A customer of mine found out the hard way. Drum was out side. It rained and water was sitting on top of the drum. Sun came out and expanded the drum, then cooled off and contracted. The water got sucked into the drum. They went to pump some hydraulic oil out of the drum and pumped out a mixture of oil and water. Didn't notice and put it into a CNC punch press and the $10,000 dollar high speed hydraulic servo valve didn't appreciate it too much. The entire system was contaminated. Not cool.

That's interesting because chopper pilots or companies leave stashes in the bush quite often with no ill effects.

wonder if someone monkeyed with the drum, as it would have to be a seal on one of the two top openings, to leak water inside. as far as i have seen anyway.

When drums of fuel are stored whether in the bush or at the hangar, lay the barrel on it's side and leave the bungs at the 3 and 9 oclock. When using this fuel raise the drum on the pump side so all water will go to the low side. Let sit for a bit, then look inside with a flashlight to see what is or isn't in there.

It is possible the top was left lose or maybe the threads were in rough shape. Just thought I would throw the warning out as I never thought about the expansion and contraction and that it can suck what ever is on top of the drum inside of it. If the seal if off the top amuse the worsts and you a$$ is covered.

205 litre drum? Did you fill it or purchase the drum and av from bulk dealer?

see those drums outside all the time, don't ever recall seeing them on a slight tilt. bulk stns, airport, out on bush landing sites. but i think most are a type of jet fuel looks like kerosene or something like that.

I bought it brand new drum unopened in red deer , I payed 396 and should still have the receipt I will let it go for 300 if I can't get that I will keep it for next year

I'd say just keep, here in edmonton u can buy av gas for a buck sixty a liter at the airport
