I own a 98 rmk 600 and I cant get her tuned right. im not sure if I should ajust the carb, at high rpm she runs great (gold plugs). but at any rpm's under 4000 she spits, has bad responce, and the plugs are black. I am scared to go and leaner on the altitude compinsator. I do not have a manual so could someone please point me in the right direction? are there ajustments to the carb I should make? PLEASE HELP :)

Well there is always something To adjust. Unless you know what your doing, I wouldn't try it yourself. remember education costs money and motors are expensive. I suggest getting someone with the right experience and tools to do it but also show u so u learn a lil something! Single cylinders aren't bad to try attempt yourself but if you want your twin (or tripple) to run right and reliable, take my advice :)

Take it to Absolute Power in Riel Park. Jarod set my carbs up when I got my ATTAC installed and my sled has ran flawlessly since. His shop rates aren't too bad either.

I guess my first question would be has it always ran this way or is it a new development. It could be in your carbs or a glitch in your clutching like spring fade or in need of some cleaning. When you checked your mid range how long did he hold it in the same position?

3/4 to wide open throttle (WOT) are main jet issues. From idle to 3/4 trottle are main jet and needle issues. It sounds like your needle needs to be replaced or dropped by one setting. If you have Mikuni carbs you can drop the needle by changing the position of the circ clip stop on top of the plunger (valve). Kehin carbs are the same principle but I think they have a different system to raise or lower the needle. Never go to the very lowest setting ( too lean ). Syncronizing the carbs is important ( make sure they open and close exactly the same - adjust your throttle cable adjustment swivel.) The pilot jet screw lets more air in at idle and has no effect when you open the throttle from idle. Do you have idle problems ? when you drop your needle - always check you plugs often - dropping needles - leans you out and could burn you down ( pistion ) if you are too lean.

Sounds like your pilot jets are too big. What size are in there now? I would be very cautious in raising the clip position on the jet needle as the Keihin carbs run kind of lean in the midrange anyway. That is assuming the clips are in the recommended position in the first place which is number 2.
