Anyone know if there is a major difference in the dodge ram 5.7L vs the 4.7 L engines as far as gas milage goes.....the only thing I would haul is the quad....

I am looking at trucks, I mostly do hwy kms.....

Thanks

depends i guess on if u want power, gear ratios, etc...
also that there really isnt a truck out there that is good on gas/diesel...
if ya want good mileage leave the truck in the driveway or go with with a smart car

Had the 4.7 in my 2002 quad cab 4x4. It was fine, actually pretty powerful, & as long as you do not plan to pull nothing heavier than 5 - 6000 lbs it will do fine in Alberta ( but stay away from the Grande Cache to Grande Prairie highway, the hills will kill that tranny pulling that much weight). On the highway as long as i stayed under/ around the 110 km/hr mark it was real good on fuel. Best i got was on a nice summer day, no wind to speak of on a 61/2 hr drive was 24 mpg... that was my figures not the factory computer. JMO

I have a 2003 regular cab long box 2wd with the 4.7L in it. Its a great little engine, and back in the day when it was stock, i got 26 mpg driving out to vancouver island. Now that I have some stuff done to it, and dont take road trips with it, it gets about 15 mpg around here. But I have 4.56 gears in it so it pulls 2500 rpm at 115 kmh.
As far as milage goes, They get about the same. My next truck will have the bigger engine. More power, and the same economy.
