question for anyone, I just bought a 2009 polaris 550 xp only 70 kms on it and I am experiencing loud knok in drive train. it happens when engaged in forward or reverse when first taking off. took it to the dealer I was not impressed with the noise they tell me that it is normal. any advice or similar stories on this bike.

IDK if your talking about the same thing but on my 500 sometimes when you switch it into a different gear ( low high w/e) it doesn't quite lock in. If you give it just a little throttle you will feel it click in. If you were to give it alot of power when it wasn't quite in gear i figure you would get a loud clunk. JMO

I have a 09 Polaris 550 xp. It has the same noise. I was thinking about taking it into the dealer, too. After what you guys are saying, I guess that is a noise the Polaris makes. Thanks for posting your concern, it makes me feel better about the way my quad runs. I've put on a lot of enjoyable miles this summer.

The loud clunk noise in the new XPs seems to be a normal thing. I spoke with my dealer about it and it has to do with the new EBS system.
BTW my 700 X2 does not make this same noise.
