I faithfully use the "Backroad Mapbook-Kootenay Rockies BC" version. Updated them as they've come out and the new version has topo relief. Tells about most of the lakes, fishing, campsites...some of the more obscure areas aren't labelled. This with Google Earth and Spot tracking is what I use to see where we're going or where we've been.
Google Earth has to be the best tool for finding areas and planning routes.

Just checked my book and they make the same ones for all over Canada. They have them at bookstores, alot of gas stations, our hardware stores have them and any tourism info place should have them.

I just started using them a few years ago. They're better than anything else I've found but trail heads etc can be hard to find. I use them in combination with my GPS. Nature claims back old trails and roads pretty fast if they are not used so I find 30% don't exist anymore. Maybe just the areas I've been through. Cycle works and Walmart sell them too.:)
