Great post...it's a major problem around here too....buddy's quad is 48" wide, and he cuts out a 49" block to squirm through. It doesn't make a bunch of sense. Nice riding areas by the way, Im super jealous....I'm going to have to load up the bike and family and head out there for the weekend, drop them off in town with an empty Mastercard, and come find you.

I cut to just a bit more then my quad. If full size 4x4's want to ruin our quad trails then they can go through the work of cutting the extra width.

when we cut dirt bike trails, we cut them narrow to keep the quads and trucks out. nothing against quads. but when they open them to wide, the 4x4 trucks get in and destroy great single track trail. see it happening here all the time.

This is probably the single most reason that people leave stuff in the trail. There are other ways of doing this and as you may have seen if a quad really wants to poach your trail they will, they have the easy ability to carry a chain saw and many of them do, the best practise is to sign it dirt bike only single track....yeah there are some bad apples but most will respect it. This is why working in areas it is great to have both quad and dirt bike, as if there is decent quad trails then they will go there...but I do understand your concern.

Most bike trails I've seen are a little too technical for most quadders anyways ha ha!! I don't blame ya for cutting them single width but if it's on crown land (non-tenured) then it's open season if a quadder or 4x4 wants to spend the time to make it wide enough for them. I can't really complain when a full size opens up a quad trail, usually only happens on old roads that were built for full size anyways so not too worried about it!

If we start complaining amongst ourselves then we're in trouble. It's bad enough the non-motorized users are trying to keep us off of crown land let alone fighting each other for "exclusive" use. :) Terrain is the only thing stopping bigger users from opening up a trail for them selves. There are some quad trails that a 4x4 simply can't fit on unless they brought in heavy equipment to remove rockslides etc and same with atv's on bike trails, I'm not into cutting green trees (and illegal too) to widen a trail for my quad. If it's simply removing deadfall then I say go for it if you think it's worth it! :D
