Looks like I can get about another 1 to 1 1/2" lift which would be handy. Need some expert opinions based on the pictures. Can I go with 1" of plate steel or box steel between the frame support and the axle support top? Any welding needed? To me it looks like I can just insert the 1" of material and use longer bolts.

Expert opinions appreciated.

you should have no problem just putting a block in there. i would use 3/16+ wall and close in the ends though personnelly to help keep it from colapsing when you tighten it. might be overkill a bit but at least no worries of failure.

X2 on what magnet said. If you have a good drill press, you could use 1" X 2" flat bar, then you're definitely not going to crush it - EVER :d

if you can make a template and email/get it to me some way i could drill you 2 pieces of 1" thick material for each side. big self feeding drill press so easy peasy. mark 1 tack em together and drill 2 at a time.

We have done six different trailers in the last 5 years, we use heavy wall 2" square or 2" x 3" tubing, I like to run the tubing at least three feet farther then the front and rear spring shackel....the tubing is welded in place and longer bolts used....

If I remember I'll take some pictures of one of them tonight....

I would think if you're going to use tube then you would want to sleeve it for the bolts...

Magnet, thanks for the generous offer. I'll take some measurements and get back to you.

Thanks for the opinions. Looks like I should be be able to pull this off fairly easily....famous last words.
