Hey folks. We try to NEVER do negative posts, but this one is more important than most of you know. I should be posting picks of blue bird riding in great snow, but we now have to deal with the severe and negative actions of a very few.

The logging in Clemina is very serious. VARDA has gone to extensive efforts to work with the forestry companies and to provide an alternate route for the snowmobile users (which turned out awesome) and was a big cooperation by government, yet a very few people seem to think it is still better to ride an ice packed, rock filled FSR.

Riding the FSR makes no sense and riding a plowed forest service road is illegal.

I have spent much energy, on a Sunday......NOT to get the area closed down for the rest of the season thanks to a very few people.

To the few who think the road is cool, you suck.....and you have no idea what your disrespectful actions have the potential to do to the entire sledding community.

Please practice a bit of self policing out there and help us out with this cause.

Ride safe.

There’s only so many varda’s through out the province guys. It’s bad enough we have to deal with vegans, tree huggers, hipsters and inter-provincial squabbles. Not to mention our fearless leader. If you see these trucks and or trailers, or guys ripping up the road so they can get to the fresh pow 6 minutes before the rest of us, call em out. Post em and report em. I did it last year in blue river. I’m not a snitch but these guys are gonna wreck it for everyone else.

As much as I hate to suggest it, what you need to do as the responsible stewards of the area is to call in the enforcement body to charge them with riding on a plowed road. Not only will this show the idiots you are serious but will go a long way towards good will with the logging companies and government next time you need to negotiate something for the good of all. Calling them out and even trying to humiliate them on social media won't stop them. It's time we started to show everybody we are serious about protecting our sport for the majority to continue in the future.

I second this. It sucks that it would need to come to this. A good time to remind everyone that the NDP is in power in BC (bad enough that they're in power in AB) and that the reality is they are puppet to the BC Green party trying to hold power. g

Not trying to take away from Curtis' original post, but I'm also worried how fast we could lose our playground because of a very small dumb group.

Believe me, its been done. We support enforcement of regulations 100%. Government has been very lenient with this, allowing multi use of the 4km bridge. VARDA fully supports enforcing the law on anyone who is not in compliance.

There is so much riding on this.

I'm not sure Fernie is as popular or busy snowmobile wise as Valemont, but it seems the same group of losers exist everywere.

The FSA has done a fantastic job over the past few years trying very hard to make it an attractive destination.
The trails are in super shape. Signage is put up to help new people to the area know where they are, and st ageing areas are improving.

There is however, a short span of single file trail connecting two parking lots at one area, that would be tough to groom. All things considered though, this really shouldn't be a big deal- especially since so many sit at the cabin and meadows, and brag about how much they spend on sweet shocks and fancy suspensions.

And yet- even with all the signs reminding people that DRIVING ON PLOWED ROADS IS ILLEGAL, and the piles of snow pushed up as physical reminders- some ass holes refuse to take the extra 5 mins, and stay on the provided trails.

That same road is used by a local Cat Ski business, and can be busy at times. It is also narrow, and provides access to the trailer parking lots, and a pain to meet sleds coming down while leaving with a trailer.

The same group of dick heads complain when the local law enforcement is out, 'hassling' people for registration and insurance.

I don't like the police out there anymore then anyone else, but FFS people- stop giving them a reason to be there.

Most of us were dickheads at one point or another, but for me personally it was being called out on it by my peers that was the most effective way to straighten up.

So, if you see these people- don't be afraid to 'remind them' of how stupid their being. In the long run, they might thank you

Thanks for this great thread. Valmount isn't the only place i assure you of that. I've seen it here in the Sicamous/Revy areas. Though i believe Revy has gone through great length to control this with the help of forestry.
I believe it has very little to do with trying to save 5-6min of trail riding and more to do with not wanting to pay for trail pass. I have seen trucks parked out near the rail road track a few Kms away from Clemina. These dudes use the service road and hookup to the trail system avoiding trail passes.
Ya i know, forestry and RCMP, including the rail road have worked on trying to discourage the practice but they are not breaking any laws till they ride the FSR. But then only if they have no insurance.
Many in Sicamous do the same, in fact some local's feel they have the right to do so, i have spoken personally with some.
Its an attitude and some feel its their right, similarly to cursing, drinking, smoking and doping up in the clubs facilities. Its an attitude of disrespect for others including the hard work the club does on their behalf.

Two weeks ago i told three disrespectful individual's smoking up the Owls head cabin to take it out side with their smokes and pot. The cabin was pretty much full and i did it discretely. They looked at me and basically said WTF but then realized when i said loudly "this is a family friendly cabin" suddenly the attitude changed when other sledders yelled out "take it out".
Sometimes when you see something wrong, it only takes one to say something.

We chased down a couple guys two years ago at Renshaw that had ridden in to Wilmore. They claimed ignorance, but I'm pretty sure they knew where they were. Only takes a few idiots to get an area shut down.

Someone posted on face book that their sorry that they rode on road and were caught by a grader operator. They said signage was the reason, it didn't show them good enough where to go. I been down the back trail and if you can't follow the signage Varda has put up then maybe get new glasses or just stay home. Your probably the same guys riding out of bounds because you couldn't see the signs up on hill either.

In them hills.
At least they are sorry for getting caught.
They should be made to volunteer a weekend of the best blue bird conditions and upgrade all of the signage for varda.

No signs in the alpine.......

Just doesn't matter if the riding area gets closed down or someone dies.

I was at Climina Saturday and maybe because I know the area and where to go I did not notice the "Turn Here Arrows".
Or a "No sleds beyond this point" sign??
The "Shared access" signs are BIG but not after that by what I saw...or just missed???

Thanks folks.

Lets just be clear, that this was not just the one group who did seem to make an honest mistake and admitted to it. Which was good and we used that writeup in our defence. Everyone makes mistakes.

There have been more than this one group who did it accidentally and to add salt to the wound the group tracked up all the meadows etc around the 6km mark so it looks real bad on our group.

To clarify, it does not look like a hundred people have done this, but a very few can truly get our access taken away. Please help out with education and self policing.

Now , some good news! SNOWFALL WARNING IN EFFECT :Happy6:
