in the aftermath of this horrible accident in revy. i think its time that we as sledders and snowmobile clubs take it apon ourselves to get some basic avi training. i personally think its about time for each club to step up and hold an avi training section at least once a year. if each club atleast held a basic course, im sure they'd get a reasonable rate and the knowledge you'd get would go a long way to help prevent situations of last weekend.

Great thought. Our club hosted an avalanche course with Zac's Tracs in January. We got an awesome rate, and Lori, the instructor was willing to do it (coming From Alberta to Prince George) even though we didn't have the required numbers to put the course on. So, out of 200+ members which probably at least 1/2 ride the mountains, we had 6 sign up. A few more showed up the night of the classroom session, but on the field session there was only 6 of us. The small course was great, we had two instructors so were able to learn alot more about the beacons, etc. Just goes to show you it's still a hard sell with the sledding community.:nono:

Remember kelowna 3 months ago Ray? Turnout was good but should have been better......it was "free". From that the AST1 signups were less than stellar.

The people who want training will get it..........the ones who don't won't. Heck it costs less than that new helmet most eye up every year. :(

For some reason I don't think the AST1 providers will have a huge influx of students next year.........so please prove me wrong and get yourselves and your riding buddies into the classroom everyone.

I hate to admit it, but you're right Randy. We have the same issue with our club every year. Can't get anyone interested in taking a course at all. Haven't tried the "free" route, but I bet it would be the same.

it was great of terry at kelowna yamaha to step up last year and offer it to us for free. thanks again terry!!! i wished other dealers were a little more proactive. or maybe if they did it on a club level. maybe held something at the beginning of the season it would help even more so.
