There have been three negative stories in the news this week about sleddders. Doesn't help us out at all! Play safe this winter!
CALGARY - Mounties in Turner Valley have laid charges against a Calgary snowmobiler for allegedly trying to evade officers four times.
On Friday at 9:30 p.m., a peace officer from the town about 65 km south of Calgary spotted a snowmobile driving past the RCMP detachment on residential streets.
The officer tried to stop the sledder, who was riding with a passenger, but he sped away.
The same officer tried to stop the snowmobiler a few minutes later, but the driver again sped off out of the town, west on Hwy. 546.
RCMP who became involved in the pursuit found the sled parked on a rural road just west of Turner Valley, but allege at that point the driver fled again.
Two more RCMP officers standing on the road tried to flag the snowmobile over, but the driver refused to stop until he crashed into the bushes at a T-intersection and was arrested.
Const. Tom Christie said riding a snowmobile on residential streets is a serious danger to the public and to the driver.
"If you picture a snowmobile flying by a house, a snowmobile can't stop very quickly, can't handle the same as a car," he said.
"The danger he put to himself, his passenger and to other people is huge."
John Ross Ringler, 28, of Calgary has been charged with flight from police, impaired driving and driving with his blood alcohol over the legal limit.
He is also charged under the Traffic Safety Act of operating an off highway vehicle carelessly, no insurance, no registration and driving an off highway vehicle on a highway and residential streets.
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Okotoks provincial court on Jan. 14.
He will be in sh!t for all the charges, have another beer idiot.
