I found this testimony by Brian C. Steed, JD, PhD Economics Instructor and Jon M. Huntsman School of Business, Utah State University on the Economic Costs of Wilderness
and a long story short;
"In each case, we found that Wilderness had a statistically significant negative relationship with county economic conditions."
It seems Wilderness designations do not in general have the economic spin off's the enviromentalists seem to like to spin. With the Alberta Government's recent budget and the recommendations of the South Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council hopefully everyone whom reads these forums can take a moment and write a letter to their local MLA voicing their concerns about land use issues in Alberta
