Due to people using active logging roads riding snowmobiles and driving their trucks up without a radio McCrea has been shut down till March 26th 2010.

The same may happen at Area 51 so please follow the regulations before we loss another place to ride. Here is a link to the goverment letter closing the road.

Here is the letter from the MOF closing the area from Jan.11-Mar. 26. The closure is because of snowmobilers riding their sleds on a plowed FSR road making it hazardous for both themselves and the equipment operators when active logging is taking place. There have also been complaints on the Pinkston Rd. (Area 51) and you could see the same thing happen there.

Is anyone surprised, really? There is a significant number of A-holes amongst us.

I am with you on this. Give yourself a little education, contact the local contractor for information, buy or rent a god dam radio and use it. What a bunch of a$$holes. Stuff like this ruins this sport for all of us.
Surely if you can afford to participate in this form of winter recreation you can afford to rent a radio, pickup a phone to call the contractor or talk to the locals for info to prevent this kind of closure. It is so easy to do.
If you know people that are going to these areas ask them if they know the rules. Then demand they obey them or keep their disrespectful sorry a$$ on Boulder or Frisbie.
You are to blame if you do not act when you see some one doing something that they shouldn't be doing. Help police this sport and speak up when you see this stuff happening. A word not spoken is a word not heard. Most times a short conversation will resolve an issue or give them the information they do not have to make better choices. Or better yet, leads to "Western Justice" to help "resolve" the issue.
It is true a few ruin it for all and seldom do these pricks get the message. If they loose access they just shrug their shoulders and go somewhere else closing areas that many of us have enjoyed for decades.

Problems like this will never go away unless we stand up for our sport.

It is posted at bottom of Akokalex that no Sleding on plowed road.
If you go on plowed forestry road you should follow a radio equiped vehicial
The other thing is that loggers do their maintance on the weekends so that will be the next issue.
Some poeple do have radios with proper freq. in them but if WCB safety comes into question then We will see total closures on active logging roads.
I hope the people that rode McCrea on thursday and Friday are proud.

it's a shame.one of the a..holes will get killed and the poor logger will have to live with it for the rest of his life.bad enough to close down areas, but consider the consequenses of your actions, perhaps you won't be missed if are kia,but the poor bugger who rolls his truck while trying to avoid runnin' you over will be,goof.personally, when i'm truckin' in the bush,i know where the edge of the road is,i WON'T GET OVER,just so your sorry arse knows.:nono::rant:

This p***es me off. I have ridden McRae for years and never had a problem because we have always followed the rules. This is a great area that use to never be overcrowded...if you can't follow the Forestry Requests stick to riding Boulder and Frisby with the rest of the crowd.

Wholeheartedly agree with everything in this statement.

A few bad apples spoil the bunch.

:( to see Mcrae closed to sledders as I feel this may be one step in the wrong direction for another one of our sledding areas.

Here we go again. Just because of a few f'n arseholes we lose more sledding area. Use that lump on top of your shoulders or go ride Boulder with all the other tourists. Better yet, stop in Golden, and ride there.:(

I was there on the weekend, MOST are following the rules but a few are still running the roads without radios. (Thanks to the guy that reloaded his sled and moved to the proper unload area) Some are even riding the roads by sled, riding a snowmobile along with a pick up is not an exception as far as I understood? They did not have AB plates either.
