Depends on what you like to so mostly. I checked a summit x cause jumps and drops arent my thing where I like the deep snow and climbing so the summit best suites my needs.

Ride with a guy that had a freeride last year, said it was a dud. Way heavier than the x and he didnt like the wide boards in the deep, figured that he got stuck more because they would hang up while trenching. Nevermind the brain and clutching issues he had. He was getting rid of it last i knew and getting an x, and he is a jumper,,,take what ya want from it.

Its too early to decide which to snowcheck. With all the talk around this site it sounds like skidoo is gonna have a new chassis or something big in the works to further their lead on the competitors. Hehehe just had to add that in to stir the pot.

The Freeride is its own model. It is supposed to be a beefy mountain sled, with additional bracing and wider foot boards. It only comes in white, unless you wrap it. The weight difference is significant, 30 pounds heavier than the comparable Summit. It is not a true RS chassis sled either as it does not all the bracing the RS sleds have. It does have more though than a Summit. And has piggyback shocks. It was marketed towards guys who like to do huge drops and jumps.

So if doing huge drops and having wider boards is for you and don't mind the additional weight, its the sled for you.

I don't think I would ever go with an "X" again unless they make it worth while.

The SP has all the same options now as the X including the multifunction gauges. The Shocks are a premium shock on the X but in the end cost of the sleds you can upgrade the SP shocks to a higher quality shock for less. The only thing you get with a X over the SP is a black tunnel and the taper handlebars with race controls.

More and more there is a rumor of a new release from Doo. I doubted it in any conversation I have had. I still don't believe it, but there is something coming for 2013 and more details will possibly be known in the next few weeks. If your not someone who has to jump on a first year release, the Summit is a great sled as it sits.

The 2011 freeride had issues with trenching because of location of the front mount. For 2012 the moved it back to the original location so it is the same as the summit. I just bought the freeride so this season should be interesting. I have not been on a new summit and havent ridden in the mountains sledding yet. I am going from a 2000 summit 700 so it will be a huge step up. Alot of guys are saying they are 30 lbs heavier but dont have much more bracing then the x. I figure that 30 lbs has to be in there somewhere. Adding better shocks doesnt add that much weight.

But with all that said the season is going to start soon. You a long time yet before you decide. Lots of new stuff out there and going to come out.

Freeride has wider stance - heavier arms
Piggyback shocks - heavier
wider boards - heavier

Rail stiffeners are also on the Freeride. So yeah, the 30 pounds are in there somewhere. But its not 30 pounds worth of additional bracing.

Its a nice sled, if someone is using as it is been designed for. Otherwise, a Summit is fine.

Does the x have the sway bar disconnect? The ski stance is the same as the 2010 at 38". I know the controls are pretty much the same. I am very curious to know ALL the differences. Someone bring their X over to my place and lets go through them. lol

Your welcome to try mine as it's my demo( 2012 Freeride 154 2.5), I had one last year too( 2011 Freeride 154), I did not feel any difference in weight, but the suspension (especially in deeper trail whoops in the spring) made the X feel pretty feeble. Where you could tell you were going to crush the X in the whoops, the Freeride begged to go faster and harder, I'm a bigger guy and loved the wider running boards and did not feel like they caused much drag..anyhow, its all in your riding style and ability....... I usually ride in Golden and if you shoot me a pm we can meet up and you can try one, we also have a X 154 that you can ride back to back if Ginger comes out, both sleds are pretty fun.....
