i have a 97 670 summit and when i would go for a ride it would run great but once in a while after riding if i stopped it would be very hard to start again.
i'm thinking maybe coil is getting bad. anybody have any idea what i could check.

Start looking at your carbs, a good cleaning including the valve and seat, floats and bowls and all jets.

Is it an X? I had one that the air pump under the motor took a crapper and once it would start like the sled was flooded.

If you stopped pointing downhill, it could be the carb floats.

Had EXACTLY the same problem, everytime I would park the old Mach 1 facing downhill it would be flooded, and would start very hard

It would be a good idea to replace the viton tipped needle and seat assemblies with the heavier all brass units that were used on earlier models - p/n is in the racing handbook, check with your dealer. The old 670's would vibrate enough at idle to unseat the needle or tend to flood on rough terrain due to the lightweight of the viton needle. Once replaced, you can even start that rotary valved twin facing downhill, as long as the float level is correct.
