Thursday (July 19) 10:30 a.m. update: Police are looking for a suspect in the vigilante-style assault of an alleged impaired driver after a collision injured a young pedestrian last night.
On July 18th, 2012 at 8:15pm, the West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a hit and run involving pedestrians on the 3500 block of McIver Road. Apparently, a grey Ford F150 driven by a 23-year-old West Kelowna man had driven into three young girls walking along the side of the road.

RCMP talk to witnesses after a hit and run in Glenrosa Wednesday night.
One of the girls was unable to avoid the truck and was hit, suffering minor injuries. The driver fled the scene on foot but was followed by two men and assaulted. Both the driver and the injured 12-year -old girl were taken to hospital and later released. Police believe alcohol to be a factor in the crash.
Police have identified one of the men involved in the assault, but are looking for the public's assistance in identifying the second.
The unknown suspect is described as a man with a dark or tanned complexion, about 5'9" tall and 180-190lbs in his late 20's or early 30's. He had short, brown buzz cut hair and a regular build. The man was seen wearing a tan or beige color ribbed tank top, grey knee length cargo shorts and work boots.
The investigations are ongoing and no charges have yet been laid.
Wednesday (July 18) night original story
Two people are in hospital after a hit and run accident led to what appears to be a case of vigilante justice.
Around 8:00 p.m., Wednesday night, a man in an older grey Ford F-150 pickup was driving up Glenrosa Road in West Kelowna.
The RCMP say the driver turned right on McIver Road and after travelling about half a block, clipped the side of a mailbox on the right hand side of the road.
At the same time, there were three young children who were on the right hand side of the road.
After clipping the mailbox, the truck headed right for the kids, who scrambled to get out of the way. One young girl was hit by the truck and knocked to the ground.
The truck then spun around in a 180 across the street and ended up in a ditch facing the opposite direction on McIver.
The driver then attempted to flee from the scene. He jumped out of the truck and ran up McIver, cross Glenrosa Road and then headed up Landsbury Way.
Police say one or two other men who witnessed the accident chased after the man and caught up to him on Landsbury where they administered what can only be described as vigilante justice, beating the driver so badly that he had to be rushed to Kelowna General Hospital.
He is reported to be in serious condition.
The RCMP is still investigating, looking for witnesses to the event and the one or two individuals who attacked the driver of the truck.
The young girl who was hit is also in serious condition with what's described as non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses say she was moving at the time she was loaded into the ambulance.
