Anybody remove the aluminum covers and insulation from their stock pipes? Is the insulation there for noise reduction only or is it there to hold heat in the pipe?

I'm assuming that this is where aftermarket pipes are saving weight.

So is it a good or bad idea to take this cover off?

Thanks Darrell :beer::beer::beer:

I would think that it would be a bad Idea. the pipe will not perform as designed and you will get excessive heat under the hood. the noise level will probable increase as well.

it's a bad idea to remover your heat sheilds. BUT...If your ceramic coat your pipe your probably better off. Ceramic coating retains heat very well. I Ceramic coated my stock doo pipe on my 09. Ran better...Hot pipe is a happy pipe. Sounded better. Lighter. And looks much better.
