ive started looking for my first vehicle and have been looking around and come to a conclusion. since many people are asking an arm and a leg for a vechicle that isnt worth the earth its sitting on. ive started looking for salvage/write off vehicle or government/ police seizure. i can get repairs done for just the cost of parts and ive seen alot of good deals that have been getting picked up by my boss for repairs.

there are actually some real good deals to be had out there right now.... It's definitly a buyers market.... I had my bimmer listed and even at 4K am not getting much interest...

But we managed to pick up a 1994 GMC sonoma SLT 4x4 ext cab with 174K on it for the daughter for $2500....just gotta keep an eye on Kijiji and be ready to jump when the right deal comes up..... we contacted the guy within an hour of his post and bought within 4 hours.....

If you know what to look for or got a friend/family member whatever you can find some good deals at auction like osmans or michener. Otherwise kijiji, buysell, autotrader, etc. Just be careful there are a lot of piles of crap for sale. I'm guessing your looking for something for a few grand or so? The problem with many vehicles like that, if they need much work many aren't worth fixing no matter how cheap you get parts for.

Good luck in your search. First vehicles are great! :d

I got a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab looking to get $2500 out of it or willing to trade for a quad preferably a small one 150 cc or if need be onto a sled. The truck is not in to bad of shape, I just replaced the O/D housing as it was cracked replaced both rear u-joints and put in a new front driveshaft ($425). It has 320 km on her, but also needs some TLC. I just hate to sell it to someone I know even though I don't know you, cause I feel like a fool if something goes wrong with it. :d

I know from firsthand experience that a "salvage" can not be put back on the road in Alberta. Too bad, it was a good car.

It can be.... but it's expensive with many hoops to jump thru....

Agreed...have done it once, and this week just bought a 22' enclosed Nashcar trailer, it was rolled, written off, and I bought from the insurance co. have it registered and insured already. It took a commercial CVIP and an inspection but that was all. I now have a 14k trailer for less than 3k...nice deal. I still have some cosmetic details to work on, but I have all summer.

I bought a truck from a salvage auction, it was stolen and written off because they did some minor body damage and blew the motor. $350 inspection and it was back on the road. I am guessing it was so easy because of the damage. You are just suppose to take pictures of it before you start and as you fix it, and then you take the inspection to registry and register right there, but your even allowed to drive it as soon as the inspection is done. I am hoping that is why they barely looked at the truck, because it's scary if all salvage are looked at that little
