Hello all, Seems like great a site for info and just hang out. I'm new to dirt bikes although I rode as a teenager. Got my 13yr old a trail bike for his birthday and then the Boss ( aka wife ;) ) said I should get one so we could ride together. Of course I went all out and got a '08 KTM 250xcf. My wrists hurt from trying to hang on !! LOL

Anyway, I have no Idea of places to go that are within a 30 minute drive of my area, so we can just go ride for a couple hours at a time. Prefer someplace where my son (13yr ) won't get pinched by rangers etc. Thanks in adavance.

Welcome to the site.As for where you can ride you will have to wait for a response from a fellow member. Maybe try to put it in the riding spot section. Good Luck and have fun. We all do

Welcome MrKTM to the site. I don't have a riding area close to your home but there must be a few members who would know.

See the following map to find out where Spring lake is:

Thanks for the effort of including the map, rknight! And thanx everyone for the welcome.

I will do more poking around to find some good spots to ride. My biggest problem is my son who is only 13. I sort of know the laws - which say he cannot ride on crown land but I guess this will make us crimminals since we don't know anyone with a thousand acres or so to ride on!:D

What do others do for riding areas with the young ones?

Yes he can ride on Crown land you just have to with him. Either in front or behind him. Parental supervision. Need plates and insurance and for your son and yourself a HELMET. Its not the law to wear a helmet just the law of Snow and Mud and common sense Thanks

LOL, thanks. He's riding a 140 Kawi trail bike. Can someone clarify if we need to have plates visible on the bikes? Doesnt say that in the by-law.

Pretty sure plate has to be on anywhere in the province.someone else may be able to verify for sure.

where you live helmets are mandatory according to the bylaws. here is a link to the parkland laws.

as well plates must be clearly displayed on the front or back of the machine. no sides, under the seat or anything of the like. and it must be on the bike itslef, not on your backpack. on a bike i have seen guys mount them to the fender with zip ties.

Alot of us wear our license plates on the back of our chest protectors. I also used to fold my plate in half so the two holes line up and use the single front number plate bolt to fasten it on. Johnny law is not concerned about where you have the plate as long as you can produce it when asked and it don't have to be visible. I now pack my plate for my quad under the seat and have had to produce it before with no questions.
