I have two of those SOS's. Same color and purchased new in 2001 or 2002 for $300 for the pair. Work great and are relatively easy to use. I use them as spares as I have upgraded recently for some digital ones. I can't say anything about the sledbug as I don't use those.

The one thing I found about the SOS was that one had to constantly practise to be able to use efficiently.

Don't think I answered your question but gave you some information.....just saying

I was in MEC a few years ago and they had sledbugs on sale for $25.
Surprised to see they had them.

Probably 5-8 years old. The ON switch, where you plug the shoulder strap into the beacon, has a tendency to go on those things after a while so I'd make sure it clicks on good when you plug it in.

They're easy to use when searching for one burial (if you practice) but you need lots of practice to find two burials.

I have 2 of them and a sled bug. The beacons have worked great for the last six years and I tested the bug last season and it was still working fine also. Not sure what they would be worth now as there is alot newer technology out there.

Bogger,

In my opinion I would not pay much for this..finding this beacon on a flat surface is one thing, findinf it buried under 4 feet of snow is a different story. Finding this beacon when there are others also sending a signal is a whole other problem. Dgital beacons are ther way to go and if you ever took an avalanche seminar and they explained how these work you would see what I mean. New technology is the way to go and it has to be digital. Save your 100 or 150 bucks for this and spend enough at the sled show to get a digital beacon....it is worth your friends life and if you are digging in the wrong spot because you saved a few bucks!

I have these beacons as Ferniesnow does as extras as well..but just as extras..

get a digital beacon, almost idiot proof. if you save some more pennies then get a spot, just picked mine up for $150 at best buy. a good digital and a spot 2, somewhere around $500. peace of mind for you and the loved ones worrying at home, PRICELESS.

Alright thanks everyone....

A guy is selling the above SOS & sledbug along with a pack, Probe and shovel, he wants $350 for the package but I'd much rather have one that is easier to use. I haven't taken my Avy training yet but plan to get it and I don't want to have one just for the sake of having it I want it to be functional and user friendly.

Thanks.

Bogger, if you would let us know what the brands or quality of the stuff is, we could help a little more.....probes and shovels together can be in the $200 range themselves (I've seen them at Crappy tire for $39.95 but they won't dig in avalanche snow and the cheaper probes will not go into the avi snow straight) and a pack is easily $100. It all depends on the quality.

One option and a good one, would be to take the avi course and see the various beacons in working scenario and then make the decision. Just my $.02

Snowmobile backpack - Edmonton Snowmobiles Parts, Trailers, Accessories For Sale - Kijiji Edmonton Canada.

I've priced out the other stuff... I bought the same shovel last year in ski-doo yellow to match the wifes summit for $50 retails for around $90 I think... the pack says Yamaha so it's woth $5, Joey would probably give me $10 though, and I'm assuming the probe (SOS) is gonna be a $80 unit.

The guy has not got back to me yet but If he'll price the pack/shove/probe right I might just buy them and he can sell the Beacon & sledbug separate.
