This is from the Fernie Snowmobile Association Facebook page:

How would you feel there was no more sled access out of Morrissey? The FSA works very hard to maintain positive working relationships with private landowners who graciously permit us to use portions of their private land for organized snowmobile use in the Elk Valley. It saddens me to say that last night, a group of very selfish sledders chose to put that relationship, and the access for thousands of other responsible sledders in jeopardy by poaching the Fernie Wilderness Adventures Cat Skiing private property. These sledders waited until staff had left, removed the fence, and sledded past several signs advising of the closure. This thoughtless act casts an incredibly dark shadow on not just our organization, but on the entire sledding community. A very sad day for us all. If you see illegal or improper behavior in any of our facilities or on the trails we encourage you to report it to the RCMP, BC Trails and Rec Sites, or to the BC Conservation Office immediately. In many cases this year a simple iPhone photo of a vehicle license plate or snowmobile has facilitated follow up action by the authorities. There is zero tolerance for this kind of irresponsible behavior in Fernie.

Crazy this year there has been a couple posts like this from multiple riding areas. Sad that the multiple thousands of designated kilometers of land is not enough.

Just curious why you would doubt this? Stuff like this happens quite a bit.

no it does not, it is the same 10% of any sport, they dont get their actions have a cause. The sky is not falling and people are not renting sleds to make us look bad, there are enough guys out there in our sport doing a good job of it already.

This action has tremendous consequences and it seems to me that there are too many people out there (even though it may only be 3-5%) that are only thinking about themselves. The "me generation" and their riding habits are becoming more prominent whether it be heli-ski areas, cat ski areas, caribou closures, or private property and they don't give a chit. It is about me and right now. It takes in all ages of riders as there is an element of older riders who think they can do what they want and phuck the establishment, an element of younger riders who don't think and don't realize the consequences, as well as, the small percentage of all riders who are dick heads. Kim, the owner of FWA, will not tolerate this and will look for quick ways to mitigate the problem.

Staging in Fernie has been a problem for years and if Morrissey were to be shut down, it would be a nightmare.

The really sad part about this is there was lots of powder out there and it was easily found.

Just lazy thoughtless people.

what's the chances of them being non residents that are just here for the winter to sled ski/board
then fly home when the season is done?
Most imports stick to the resort, sled and truck are to big of expense. Cuts into booze fund

I rode fernie for the first time a few weeks ago, and throttleops was finding amazing snow everywhere we went. Short day, but we were walking distance from the cabin and only seen our own trails. No idea why anyone would even want to go through all the work of removing a fence lol

This situation like most all others relating to it all boils down to one thing... a complete lack of respect, its becoming more evident in our and many other outdoor recreation activities.
