So I had the sergeant come in today and was asking him about what is and what isn't legal in the aftermarket industry. My biggest thing was light bars. Lightbars and fog lights are considered High Beams meaning that when approaching another vehicle you must dim your lights then can resume your high beams. The sergeant himself has a 20" and 30" light bar on his truck and his son has 50" on the roof of his 12" lifted on 44's dodge haha. So in alberta as long as you turn your light bar off on the highway when approaching on coming traffic it is a legal light to have and run.

Ha! That may be one officer's interpretation but if you looked in the rule book I thin it's a little more in depth.

if you call Rigid Industries and ask them, they will tell you that without covers their lights are not DOT approved and not legal for on road use. here is their number 1-855-760-5337

They should only sell them to people that have a brain. The other night I was driving on a twinned icy highway and i was comming up to a truck in front of me and as I got close he turned on his rear facing light bars (no I did not have my high beams on), confused the piss out of me at first, hammered on the breaks and everything thinking a vehicle was comming at me, then I realized he was just a douche, once I got close I flashed my brights at him then he shut them off. (No my truck is not lifted with headlights pointed at the sky, just a stock 2013 f150 with the factory projector headlights.) You should never even turn on your light bar for someone even if they have their brights on. Good way to cause a accident.

You probably had your driving lights on.Or he bumped a switch by accident while he was mixing a drink.

DOT is pretty strict on them, RCMP don't give 2 chits. I would love to run a couple bars on my KW but I know it will just result in coupons

I hear ya. Was debating stickn a 18" bar in opening on my t800 bumper for winter. Ive been lucky with square leds in foglite holes but they have the screen in front.

I don't have a light bar but I do have LED fog lights. They are WAY too bright to come up behind someone with them on. So far I haven't been given any grief about them, but I haven't been stopped by DOT either.

I run mine on my highbeams some people are dicks with them that's forsure. I know where ridged is coming from there not legal everywhere so they say that to cover there ass covers are suppoised to be on lights that are above your factory headlights the ones in bumpers do not need covers. the sergeant did say he pulled one clown over cause he had his light bars all lit up during the day. they said if treated like a high beam then you are ok. I can imagine DOT has a whole different viewing on them but it is nice knowing that if you use it responsibly they are more understanding.

One of my drivers had this done to him broad daylight on 63 met a car passenger hanging arm out the rear window 3 of them right thru the passenger side windshield like a shot gun blast they found a 1/2 marble in the bunk boyle RC's downloaded the camera and tried to get fingerprints off the marble to catch the jack hats said same thing happened to other trucks over a 2 week period. If someone in the passenger seat they probably been dead or seriously hurt. Couldn't image risking a life or sacrificing the rest of my free life over some azz hats with bright lights....but I guess what floats your boat

good point... i think with the exception of a true traffic cop... common sence kicks in... most uniformed cops don't care about lights too much... what the rule when these guys use the small LED lights and replace their stock "fog lights" or bumper lights? I think they should be considered high beams too... they are very bright... i wish the Sgt would join SnM so we could send him a few questions... albeit so guys would prob send him threats to so it would never work! You see lots of large commercial trucks now using highway running lights light stock vehicle use their "fog lights" those are bad too... and yes hwy 43 is got to be the worst hwy around for these kinda drivers
