We went into the mines Saturday 17th. Some BIG slides covered the trail in Avy valley the week before. The side-hill was covered in avy debris and very hard. The top of the next big hill after the side-hill had no snow, just rocks and ice. If you didn't hit it (in the right spot) with enough momentum you risked spinning out and sliding backwards. The place was completely untouched but the best powder was down in the meadow or in the trees, everywhere else it was windblown hard. More like March condidtions except I have seen more snow there in early Dec than now. Some recent slides back in the bowls too but not thick ones.
We were the only ones there and other than the risk we took actually getting in we took it pretty cool. Went around the back side as well to Snowman Lake. Nothing slid while we were there. Nice to have a blue bird day but the conditions are unusual. Didn't get back to the truck till after dark.
