I have a 1998 vmax 500 xt , took it out this weekend , runs great most of the time , at full throttle across the lake the sled bogs down and actually slows down , also a bit of a bog on the bottom end only at full throttle . Plugs are fairly wet and black , changed them and still bogging , Is this a jetting issue all of a sudden or are there any other factors that can cause this only at full or mostly full throttle , sled would only hit 100kph at best . It wasnt too cold out but should not be bogging like it was .

Make sure your not taking on snow in the airbox!
Jetting is a possibility!

I had a 500xtc and did the same thing, found jets to be pluged and needle had a coating of varnish, cleaned it all up and dropped the needle 1 washer to lean it up. Worked great after that untill the clutch blew up.

If your running last years fuel than you will want to get it out of there and put fresh fuel in. Pull the carbs and clean everything up with your basic NAPA carb cleaning spray.
You may also want to put some atuomotive Iso in the tank to make sure there is not moisture mixed with the fuel.

Let us know the results.

set aside any rubber or plastic parts in the carb before you start the cleaning. its not recommended to soak those parts with the cleaners.

When you clean your jets you can use a drill bit but only rotated with your fingers or you'll do damage to the jet.

Took the carbs off this morning , havent even got em open yet but I have a lot of delt dust in / around airbox which i'm cleaning right now and a lot going into the carbs so I'm thinking this must be my issue so far , will take carbs apart tonight . Anybody have this issue , is there a better way to protect airbox with something over the foam or better / new foam ??????????? so I don't have to do this again although it is nice to learn .
