Ok, I'm gonna be on my 2nd new recoil of the season. Why in the F**K doesn't ski-doo make these outta metal? Or where is the man that is a good machinist with a metal version. I would pay $400-$500 for a metal recoil that will never break the way this cheap plastic cr@p that ski-doo makes.

On another note...anyone with a hook up on a new recoil?! :d I'm almost outta money :(

I always pull out 6inch until compression,, nice medium strength pull but not ALL the way out,,, then return it by hand dont let it fling

biggest thing DONT PULL OUT TOO FAR.... had a buddy do that to mine

I broke the housing and a couple other parts. Spent 5hrs trying to Macgyver something up with pieces from mine and parts from another shop. Rewound the spring 4 times, put it on and took it off at least 20 times. The issue is that the ring that holds everything in place on the plastic nub kept popping off and causing it not to catch.

Please disregard my lack of "technical" terms, lol

and yes sunday was spent manually pulling with string on clutch.

Not sure what your exhaust is like. If you still have the suitcase dump it for a can. Also tape heat reflecting tape over the recoil. Went through three on my summit did this and problem was solved. Vent kits help too.

I try to do the same, it's easy pulling over this new motor. Discovered the "new" engine in my sled when I got it from the dealer wasn't new whatsoever. They pieced it together just so it'd work. Always had a problem starting it. Motor was going day I bought it.

New engine pulls over luike a breeze, even with wrapping the string on the clutch. I try not to pull too far out, I'm short and have little arms anyways, so don't really have the reach or height to pull it too far :p

I've got a can on her, but didn't know about the reflecting tape...what does this do? Yeah I'm going to drill some vent holes in my panels to try to cool her down a bit more.

Tape just helps reflect heat so it doesn't heat up as much. easy peasy to install and it did seem to help mine.

I'd assume I would be able to find this reflective tape most anywhere? Actually...we probably have some at my shop as I work for a heating company. Would tape for duct seals work? It's reflective. Or do I need something "special"?

Yeah my heart sank for sure. After everything with this sled I just wanted to give up. Not gonna lie, I shed a tear or two on the truck ride down.

haha yeah, reversing my truck up the trail must have looked pretty funny. But I had a good move ratcheting and one handed opening a beer. :p

Foil tape, it will be on the shelf somewhere. Looks like duct tape, but is shinier, and more 'foil-y'

haha thanks! I will keep a look out once I find a recoil. I'm REAL good at putting them on and taking them off now. Along with the pipe and can :p
