Looking for some directions for the staging area for silent pass. I did a search looking for a good map but couldn't find real good one. I was hoping someone could give me some good directions from the hiway to the staging area! Thanx

Head west at the town of Parson, keep following the main road past the railroad tracks and you'll see on your left a parking area for hikers. Right after this there should be someone on the road collecting trail fees before the road goes into the trees. They should be able to tell you the rest.

How much snow did they have up top, and is there a cabin or is it just the riding area out there?

It was tracked up pretty bad there might be more areas that's untouched but I didn't find them. And I never seen a cabin.

Rode there on friday and it was awesome! We were the first truck at the 34 km staging area and left at about 7:55 am and it was cc-cold but had the place to ourselves till about 10:30. Some fresh lines in the second bowl but a mix of sun and cloud so light was sketchy at times but when Mr . Sunshine came out in was grreat! The cabin is Mcmurdo which is a left turn off the main trail at the bottom of the switch back just below the roller coaster single track. It is managed by the Columbia Valley hut society not the club so you have to reserve it and I am not too sure if you can drive right to. I think the sleds have to stay a certain distance away.

The cabin is not for sledders. Even if the skiers are not using it stay out if the area or they will likely raise hell.

From the Columbia Valley Hut Society
Winter Access: Ministry of Tourism, Sport and Arts has determined that snowmobile access will be closed at 200 metres from the cabin beginning winter 2009/2010. A ski and snowshoe trail will allow all foot traffic beyond.
The Spillimacheen road is usually ploughed to the McMurdo road until mid December after which snowmobile staging/parking is either at km 27 or 21 for the duration of the winter. The access over 30 kms of un-ploughed road negates any possibility of skiing in; helicoptering from Golden (20 minutes) is possible. The Spillimacheen road is a high-use, timber haul road and the recreationist must use caution when driving throughout the year.

I don't get it, sledders can't use the hut or go within 200m of the hut, but because it is over 30km in to the hut, there is no possibility of skiing in. So, why is the hut closed to sledders if it is too far for skiers to go in and use it? Are ski tourers sledding in, then just parking their sleds 200m away from the cabin and using it to ski tour?
