Sierra 1500 ext warranty?

My 2023 Sierra elevation is coming up on 100k so about to run out of powertrain warranty. 5.3L with 10 speed. Also has the big screens in it.

Truck has worked flawlessly since new never skipped a beat - but any motor, transmission or digital screen problems will be an expensive trip to the dealer.

GM extended warranty is like $5k for another 40k kms. Aftermarket’s range from $2-3k for same but I think some of those can be a nightmare. Or I run it and hope it continues to be good. Or I sell it but I really like this truck.

Anyone have any advice?

My wife’s 2015 5.3 blew at 140k. Full warranty. Only had to prove oil changes. Fixed the truck then traded in on a 2021.
Then her motor on her 21 GMC blew at 14,000 km. And again at 53,000 km. We have extended warranty again. I believe it was five grand. for seven years 140k. I wouldn’t wanna own a GMC without extended warranty.

GMC dealers can offer different prices. I ground them down pretty good. I’ve bought a few trucks off that dealer

I have a 2017 5.3 with 183K. Bought used from GM and didn't take any warranties.

My brother has a 2014 5.3 with 476K. 2nd tranny, engine has never been opened

I have been screwed over by aftermarket extended warranties, through Dodge and will never do again.

It is a tough decision.................

You have 100,000km on a 23. Whats 40,000km warranty gonna give you, another few months?


Sounds like you need to trade it in or just chance it.

Take the $5k you were going to spend on warranty stick it in your TFSA and buy ZSP. Wait until lifters fail and pay a good mechanic to put in decent lifters and a small cam. Done.
