On the serious side ... it is one way to search

The original basis for developing a tag system.....

1)So that at a glance, members, and the forum admins could see what's "hot" in the way of issues without wading through everything.

2) Tags should be able to provide some navigation paths.

3) Tags provide some reporting capabilties to the admin.

This could be valueable because people don't always title threads in a way that accurately reflect the real subject, or as the thread grows, the nature of what it is most about may evolve. Some tags will help create another facet.

Far as S&M goes the tags are just "the next privilege to be revoked"
