Scramblers How good are they?

I was thinking of getting a 07 scrambler for my wife and was wondering how well they do? Do they get stuck alot due to the low ground clearence? Any other positive's or negitive's?

A year ago I went in to order Kim one; ended up leaving with two. Kim chose the Scrambler becuase of weight and visiblity at the front wheels. I decided I would try one aswell because of the fun factor.

You do have to watch the deep ruts or you'll get hung up.

The Scrambler 500 has not changed much at all since it came the 500 engine was added in about 1997.

Pros/Cons

• You will get muddy
• Light weight for a 4X4
• Only tire available are OEM, Mud Lites, Bear Claws
• Sporty suspension (read: rough compared to a IRS)
• Tame enough for wife/wild enough to jump and wheelie
• Small fuel tank (70-80km/tank average)
• No low range (my only complaint)
• Chain drive requires extra maintenance
• No engine braking unless ordered with EBS clutching
• Engine responds well to a cam and pipe if more power is required
• No speedo or hour meter
• Easily embarasses the Wolverine
• No winch mounts available commercially
• Price
• The 500 engine is bullet proof

If I was looking today I would also consider the 500 Renagade.

I know Northstar Polaris in Edson has a 07 demo they want out the door. They are asking 6900. Some scratches on the plastic. It may also have some clutch work done to it (white primary spring and 2-2 secondary setting). Offer them 6900 out the door.

Fun bike, No low range.. Unless it was installed later, Polaris claims OEM kit available & then you have the Polaris maintenance thing, On the first years. Not for me.

I bought myself a Scrambler in 02'. I brought it home, took it for a quick rip. I asked my wife if she wanted to try it out. I never got it back. She really loved it. So I bought myself a 500 Sportsman instead. In 05' I bought her a new Scrambler and sold her old one to a good friend of mine. It still runs excellent. Things we fixed along the way have been one belt, a set of rear brakes, a rear brake master cylinder (a week point for sure, her new one quit working, same thing happend to a Trailblazer we use to own) chain and sprokets, my friend who now owns it dropped a tooth on the front and reports better bottom end. Otherwise it has remained stock and very reliable. Awsome machine.

Hintonatv, bleed rear brake master cylinder. If no brakes, then tie the brake peddle in the full down position for 24 hours. Flush out old fluid with a vac pump on the slave cylinder.

Foot brake master cyclinder will fail if left with black/cloudy brake fluid.

If the foot peddle is never used the fluid will turn black/cloudy much quicker than the hand brake system.

Thanks Garry. The first two I had to replace the rear master cylinder. One was replaced by the dealer under warrantee when the quad was only a couple of weeks old. This newest one, an 05 Scrambler, did the same thing. Only I never rode it until after it was off warantee. Also the rear pads where worn out very quickly. My wife says she never uses the rear brake. ?? I think she forgets the pedal is there and stands on it when she rides. So I'm leaving this one alone.
