K so I'm going to be using my trailer to stay in for work for the majority of the summer. Just wondering what you Gus have for your satellite set ups. What provider, dish on the trailer or tripod on the ground. Just trying to figure out what the best way to go is. Im not looking to spend a chit pile on this set up and not wanting to dish out for one of the auto. Dishes that set them selves up. That's a little much to invest into my little traile. But us it possible to mount a dish on the antenna mount on the roof?

if you have an unobstructed view to the south a tripod will work fine. when there is an obstruction I use a dish bolted to a piece of 3/4" plywood that I put up on the roof. I've thought about bolting down the foot plate to the roof but worried about flex in the wind with the dish up. the roof on any RV is nowhere near as stiff as on a house etc. one of these days I'm just going to get a vuqube

You can get a hand crank up mount for the roof but i would stick to the tripod on the ground. It's cheap and easy enough to set up. I run Bell and if you know someone with a subscription tag of of theirs for the extra 5 bucks a month. No PPV but cheap and just don't plug reciever into a phone line.

Gateway powersports actually sells the tripods and the meters etc to set them up.

Going to add it onto my shaw act. I think. Just weighing options, and interested in weather it's possible to mount to the existing antenna crank up I have on there.

Also the spare receiver I have I can check signal right in the options to set it up

the tripod you can always spike into the ground or put sandbags on the legs to stop the wind from taking it away, Teeroy's idea of the plywood on the roof would work but there is no way to secure it against wind etc.

maybe Highernyou has some ideas for you?

I just weight it down TG, couple pieces of firewood and it stays put. the plywood is about 4' x 4' and I glued some of that non skid foam rubber type stuff on the bottom so it won't gouge up the rubber roof membrane. we really don't use the sat tv much unless playoffs are on or there's a UFC on a camping weekend....lol.

Doubt mine will get used other than when I'm working out of it

go to the Source and buy a satellite signal finder as well for $29.99. Works great as you can tune into the satellite really fast.

^^^this. you still kind of have to know which way to point it, there are a few signals you can pick up that won't work.

If your going with shaw just like you said. Just use a extra receiver. Buy a dish. And use a tripod then if your parked in the trees you can run it out into the open. Very easy to get signal with shaw. Signal finder is pretty much built in to the receiver in the tune your signal section. Once u get signal once it's pretty much a lock every other time u set it up just minor tuning. Takes me minutes to set mine up

I agree with the tripod recommendations. Had one for years. To avoid wire through the door/window...I used the cable plug-in on the trailer outside...then inside I disconnected it from the back of the pushbutton switch and just installed a flat cable faceplate. The cable/air switch wont let the satt signal through to/from the outside plug.

I did my Bell with just the audio for years. Could get 'er set up in less than 5 min. Trick is to never adjust the inclination...leave it locked. As long as the tripod is plumb, you only have to adjust the side to side.

Same with shaw. Once you lock it in every time you move and rehook it up just move side to side and your done matter of minutes. And before if you were hooking up for the first time in the spring say you had to phone and explain to them what you were doing and refresh the receiver. Now you still
Phone but just have to follow the guide and press a few buttons and they send a signal to refresh. It was a pain before cuz you had to try to explain it was in your trailer and you had no address

Great thread....bringing my camper up to Slave for the summer and was wondering the same thing. That vucube deal sounds nice, but I'll prob just run the tripod.
