does anyone know a tool that makes spikes or markings for sheet metal?

I work on Aircraft structures most Spikes markings that you talk of are pressed into the metal with a hydraulic press

The only tool we use by hand are Dimpling dies these raise the edges of a hole (Up to 3/16 dia hole size)

When we make the steps for our boarding ladders this is how we apply the grip
I will try to find an Example at work tomorrow and post a pic

You also need a set of hand squeezers to put the dimple dies in

I bought mine from a shop in the states look them up
you could make a simple set yourself if you had access to a lathe just csk a hole into a 1" bar of steel then turn down another piece with a male version of the csk then hit it with a hammer or air chisel
