I had the opportunity to ride and compare some sleds this weekend. I thought I would share how I felt about the machines. I am not trying to cause a war, just expressing what I liked about them.
I currently ride a 2004 Polaris Vertical Escape RMK 800 (151 track). It is stock, except for the can. I love the machine and the torque. I would like to add a different air box and a riser. A riser would make it a little easier to pull over.
I rode a 2003 Polaris RMK 800 151 track (the Champ's machine), basically the same machine as mine, but it has an 8 inch bar riser. Like night and day for handling and pulling it over. My next purchase for my machine is a riser.
I rode a 2006 800 Summit HO 151 track - 16 wide (stock machine). This is light machine and was easy to handle. I found the get up and go was not as aggressive as the 800 Polaris. I found this machine easier to pull over than mine, but on the Champs with the riser they were both the same. I like this machine a lot more than I thought I would.
I was able to try the 2007 1000 apex and see it in operation. This machine was stock. I came to the conclusion that the machine needs to have a turbo. A little disappointed.
I also tried my father's 2006 900 RMK 166 track. Pretty much stock, except for a riser, can and a different air box. The torque and power on this machine was incredible. It handles well and is easy to pull over and do donuts, easier than the Champ's 800. It climbs higher than I would every want to go. I was really surprised how easy it is to pull around.
Just my thoughts
