Just an FYI, there is an angry farmer just behind the namao school to the north. Me and a buddy staged at the school tonight and there was a couple other trucks already there, so we unload and head north along the highway in the dark and turn east into a field where there was already tracks, about mid way thru the field we didnt see much more for tracks so we turned around and headed back for the highway since we didnt want to ride through the field incase this guy didnt want sleds in there(there were no signs posted of any kind that we saw indicating no trespassing). We proceded to the river and a car looked like it came out of the farm and headed to the highway and we continued down the river to another field. When we got back to our trucks there was signed taped to the windows of all the trucks stating that the adjacent lands were private property and he had called the RCMP and would proceed with charges or something to that degree. There was a truck sitting in the front parking lot of the school as we were loading then left before we did.

So long story rant, watch where you ride around around the namao school, beacause the farmer expects people to know his land is private property without posting signs.

I know that and I'm not one to trespass and always respect peoples property as I wouldn't want it if it was my land but people have been riding around there for years and there tons of tracks into this field but they disminished hense the reason we turned around and got out of there because we didnt want to trespass and there were no signs posted that we saw.

And on a side note, if this farmer wants to go around posting signs on peoples vehicles when he or she could not even prove who it was, I could charge him or her with vandalism as there's a scratch on my window that was not there before.

I don't believe that so called farmer is a farmer but he may be. He is just a land owner who owns a 3 acre parcel of the section of that land. He probably doesn't like the tracks made by sleds and quads on that particular piece of ground. Its for this reason that some of these so-called farmers put up signs that they have no right to put up. If that was sacred ground then he should put up a barbed wire fence to keep trespassers out. Because of all the snow in that area, there will be more sleds in that area. And as we all know, sleds do not ruin the fields as the pressure exerted by the tracks is less than a human footprint, especially with all the snow. Best to just stay out of the area and go around. But, I'm sure the fight with that so-called farmer will not end, especially if people continue to park at the Namao school and at the pull-out along the highway 28 towards the sturgeon river. He will assume those vehicles are responsible for all the tracks in that area.....

You would have to prove he put the note on the vehicle...tough sell. Unless he admits it. Then the fight is on!

Actually, I think he has a big sign by his driveway going up to the south at the entrance to the driveway saying no trespassing....but does it mean on the driveway or in the field?

2 homes back in there now, there pissed because of the parked trucks on the service road. The field is posted in two spots,we used to ride on those fields all the time before it was subdivided into 2 different parcels.Better off going to cameron park to the east on hwy37 then north, can park by the river bridge.

I believe that one of the pissed off land owners may be part owner of Namao Transport (potable water haulers). Long driveway off of hwy 28 going up the hill into the trees with no trespassing signs along it. Staging at the school or the store parking lot with permission should be fine. Take the ditch to the river and the land owner cannot do anything as you are not on his land.

Man you have a bad attitude if you think land owners need to put no tresspassing signs up for you to know to stayoff. If you don't have permission and don't know if it's public land then stay off of it .

I thought that Sturgeon county banned all offroad vehicles. Is it still OK to ride sleds there?

Only in the area south of highway 37 towards all the ritzy houses and along the sturgeon river to St. Albert. I suppose all the whiners in the big million dollar houses complained enough to get this done. Although there might be a politician living in the area or one rediculous voter.....seems like it doesn't take much to get fun taken away but try and get a politician to listen....and do the right thing.

You can't ride towards St Albert once the Sturgeon crosses hwy 37 west of hwy 28. Anything south of 37 is out of bounds and county mounties will stop you. I staged on the service road just off 28 north if 37. Had a visit from the county mountie and he info'd us to abide by the no parking signs and best to ride east on the river for a bit before ducking into fields. East of 28 on the river is fair game though, like guys are saying watch out for crusty landowners and careful in the river, I was out just before Christmas and there's still open water in some places. IMO support local clubs and the ASA and ride their trails, 20 min extra driving is worth it.

Yes, Riding north of Morinville/Bon-accord/Gibbons is the best with not too many fences or even doo like we did and head out to Waskatenau and ride the Ironhorse trail...
Namao is not a good place anymore....you need to go further north to stage.

Yes I do have a bad attitude towards people that think they own the world. If they're were no posted signs at the easiest access point to the land then its not tresspassing as far as I'm concerned. If it is private then put up a fence or mulituple signs if your that anal that you dont want sleds on your property. There was a ton of other tracks onto the property so its not like we were the first two, and once they diminished we left as like i stated we though "hey maybe this guy doesnt want sleds on the proerty so lets turn around".

And like duck said, yes I would have to prove but he also has to prove it was us on his property so two canplay at that game, the point I was making is he shouldnt go around and touch other peoples vehicles regardless.:nono:

The only reason we rode there anyways was I just installed new bars on my sled and wanted to just try them out for a quick ride and didnt want to drive for an hour. There's always guys staging at the school and tons of tracks around that area so fiqured it was good for a quick rip.

I agree, he shouldn't be touching any other vehicles.... I would be pissed too if he got near my Avalanche and scratched the fender with his buttons on his farmers jean jacket....while putting a note on my windshield.
Best to stay away from the area as he already thinks all sledders are bad news....
It probably drives him crazy to hear sleds a mile away, not even on his property.
There are lots of other staging areas that are off the beaten path of highway 28 anyway. I would not park at the Namao school or by the river along highway 28 anymore....you guys are just asking for trouble there....thieves, farmers, mounties, etc....

Well I wont stage there anymore, theives are everywhere and the RC's could care less as they know they have to catch or prove who it was, they probably get a hundred calls a season from the same guy and they just blow it off. I'm sure they have better things to do.

Twenty minutes north of Namao and this thread would dissapear,I was going to go for a rip with a couple guys leaving Namao and after some thought decided to take the extra drive, ended up in Whitecourt but there are so many places to ride,My suggestion would be Long Lake or Skeleton Lake or anywhere around Boyle there are lots of places to stage and the riding is better than ditches and hay fields and nobody get a thorn in there butt,Sledders or Farmers!
Noth end to unloadin 1 hr 15 min!
catmando!
Also Long Island Lake,Westlock Trail System.Same distance!

The Iron horse trail starts at waskatenau (staging area)....30 minutes north of namao. You can ride to St Paul (like we did) or even to Cold Lake....These pics are from yesterday's ride. Alot of people stage at Smoky Lake where the grooming starts.
