Hey guys,

just picked up a new 2014 rmk assault and will be replacing the track from a competition track to a powder track.

how do I go about removing the old one and putting in the new ? or should I just get the dealer to do it

If you know your way around the garage and a good set of tools, it's pretty easy. Nice to have someone to help too. Here is the basics:

  • Loosen the brake rotor bolt, and then remove the caliper and rotor
  • Split the chaincase and remove the bottom gear and chain
  • Back the axle off all the way
  • Remove the 4 bolts that hold the skid in, and lift the back of the machine and remove the skid
  • Pull off the speedo cable and bearing cover, and the bearing bolts on the driveshaft (clutch side)
  • Move the track as far forward and up into the tunnel as possible to get enough wiggle room and slide the driveshaft to the clutch side so it comes out of the chaincase, then pull it down and pull out of the clutch side
  • Track is out.

To put it back, reverse instructions. One thing is that the skid bolts might spin when one side is out, as the tube connecting them will move. I used an impact for that. Oh, and don't forget to fill the chaincase when done. Also, be careful not to score the seal on the chaincase when pulling the shaft, and put some grease on it when you put it back in.

Good luck!
