Father-in-law needs some help gents.....
In about 1970 he pulled an old 1937 Ford pickup into his shop and started restoring it. Finished this year and it is one beautiful piece of automobile history. Truck was originally purchased in Alberta and used on his families farm till it was retired in the back field.
Here is the kicker. He has it insured, using a serial number that is on the engine. Went to register it for the first time, and two registries offices said they could not because there was no history of the vehicle (serial number) in their database. WTF!! He found another serial number on the truck and tried again, only to be told the same yet again. They old him "how do we know it's not stolen" and he proceeded to tell them he had restored the truck over the years and it was an original family truck. Truck is originally from Alberta and Still neither of the offices would touch it. He came home extremely frustrated and almost in tears. I was irate over the simple incompetence of the registry agents. So, said I would turn to the best resource I know for this sort of thing, and here I am.
Anyone here have advice for my father-in-law? How does a guy register a restored antique that was probably never registered in the first place!? Did he just get some really incompetent and useless agents who can't figure this out?! We tried making up a bill of sale, but that still didn't work as "there is no history of the truck in our computer system".
Appreciate any help.
