Hello I recently bought a 2010 Assault RMK. Are they as bad as everyone is telling me. Of course I hear all the bad after I already bought it. So now I am stuck with it.Did they change much from 2009 to 2010? This sled hasn't had any issues yet and it has never been apart. Is there any tricks to keeping it together or am I better off budgeting for a rebuild in the future. Any tips and tricks would be great. Thanks

Ya, sorry Jason. Those motors blow all the time. Your best beat is to get the "fix kit" from Idaho. It's a kit that raises the cylinder and changes the position of the wrist pit in the piston and have tighter piston tolerances. There has been a lot of good luck with all the mountain sleds. Plus a power ceommander 5 will help the lean spots in the stock fuel mapping.

The piston kit is around $500' the programmer is $400 and a mechanic will usually charge about $900 to install it. $2000 and that sled will be good to go. Plus the piston kit adds about 7 HP. Good luck.

The one i bought has 1300 miles on it. How many km's does a person ussually get before they blow. I wonder if theres any chance i have a good one. The guy I bought it off of has never had any issues with it.So with this kit I should be good to go. I was thinking about just running it till it pops then rebuilding it. I would only have to pay for parts and I would do the mech work myself. But I don't have a good feeling about the sled and I haven't even driven it yet. LOL

I have 2010 Dragon 800, the biggest thing. Take it to a Polaris dealer and make sure all the updates are done, another important key. Is to make sure to don't touch the throttle after it's started, untill you have reached 110 - 120 F on your temp gauge. Other than that, the bugs were pretty much worked out on the 10's. At 3000 miles, I would look at doing the top end, just for piece of mind.
Enjoy your sled, and it goes for ANY sled.............. They are ALL good, and they are ALL bad.

i had 2 problems off the bat with mine, first, my voltage regulater overheated and it kept dying on me, so get your dealer to see if you have the new one that doesnt over heat. then i cooked my engine riding on a trail of all places, DO NOT ride it between 4500-5500 rpm, there is a lean spot in the fuel mapping that cooks em there. best i can do for you. rode it w.o.t trouble free for 1000kms now

I've had 4 Dragons, and had issue's with one only. I put over 4500 miles on my 08.. however some people had nightmares!!! I always warmed my sled up till I could feel heat from the exchanger behind the seat and I was always in and out of the throttle, it seemed like most of the motors that went down (that I seen) were cruisin down the trail, so like NorthstaRmk said, avoid prolonged periods in mid range.... I never did the fix kit on any of them but I think it has helped out a lot of Dragon owners... I did put the PCV fuel controller on the two 09's. The 10.s have a better motor for sure and you won't go wrong with the fix kit. oh and don't be afraid to ride the sh!t out of it!!!! IMHO

This is true about riding the throttle at the mid range. have a good friend that had all updates done and then one day he had it in at the dealer and the motor was done.. it was a warranty job (lucky for him) and then mid season it blew again.... and He rides all thr time in mid range.
So to what the guys are saying on here is TRUE DAT!!!

The biggest thing is good quality gas (shell v power) and letting it warm up before hitting the thottle. Every 800 I have owned gets pushed out of the trailer and it sits and idles till it hits 120F.

Do not run it till it pops. This could result in piston taking some cylinder skirt with it out the base. Had 1600 on mine, there are no good ones. Dealers will lie to you.

Are you for real, Tex??? Yes the 08's and 09's had problems with the motors. The 10's have problems with the electrical.
Can you tell me the difference between an 10 800, and a 11, 12, or 13 800???

i have a 10 assault with 3200 miles on it never had any updates done on as i put a pcv on right away which gets rid of the mid range melt down, only thing i have had done to it was my voltage reg and yes do let it warm up that goes with either brand or model

ride it try it see how it runs. i wouldnt be scared to drive one im friends with a owner at the polaris dealer near my house and pretty much he said the fix kit is the best for it cause it does help with power and compression. but if it runs great and no problems ride it till she pops. i've only known maybe 2 out of 10 or 12 people that i know that had their sled pop between 2500 to 4000 miles on them same as skidoo p tek 800 see them pop around the 2500 to 4000 too. if your super worried maybe take a look at the pistons dosnt hurt to look too.

Don't wait until it pops, it damaged my cylinders when mine went - it was a bit more money to replace than just the fix kit.
