Hi all,
Recently moved to the Calgary area from Eastern Manitoba. Been riding sleds since I was 8 but have never ridden in the mountains. Usually ride with the pdotsledding crew (P-dot Sledding - Manitoba Snowmobiling, Snowmobile Videos, Snowmobile Pictures, P dot Sledding). Recently purchased a 2009 Summit 800, 154", can't wait to get out there this season!
I don't know anyone out in Alberta so I'm hoping to meet some riders through Snow and Mud.
Cheers,

I'm excited for ya, I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that you'll never forget your first mountain ride:d. It will be a great experience, but as others have said...be safe and hook up with an experienced crew if you can because it will help immensely and having a few helping hands when it comes time to dig...and you will!

Thanks for the Welcomes,
I'll be picking up some av gear at the snowmobile show Nov 14-15 and getting some training in early November (depending on work)... very excited to get out there.
When does the riding season start in the mountains? Back in MB I usually had to wait till late December before there was enough snow. I assume it's earlier out here?

Can you guys recommend a good place for my first ride in the mountains? (nothing too extreme)

Cheers,
-Owen

The first Calgary Club ride is usually Quartz (Golden) in Dec. and usually well attended. It's a good opportunity to meet other riders, see what kind of riding they are into, and see an area. You do not have to be a club member to join a ride.

I'd suggest Quartz for a first Mtn ride but not till early-mid december. Earlier than that I'd suggest Revy!

The first club meeting is Oct. 13.

The Snow and Mud nights are another opportunity to meet folks and their is one coming up Oct.21.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll make either one as I'm traveling both nights.

Lots of great sledding folk in cgy!

l8r Shawn.

Like said above....WELCOME. There are great tips & lots of advice on here from many experienced people. great thing about this site is they will take you out sledding without really knowing much about each other. Really great group on here & you will definitely have fun.
There are lots of places that have good trails to start with then open areas & hills to tackle if you're up for it. Quartz Creek at Golden is one of those easy access spots that you have a little bit of everything for you. But that being said, early season riding can be pretty difficult in the hills if you've never been before. Definitley ride with a few others due to being stuck alot:d

Where abouts in MB you from?

Welcome to Snow and Mud. Respect what "RN" said above. It will be tons of fun but go with some experienced riders for the first few trips it will pay off in confidence and give you the chance to test yourself in a safe environment.

be really careful riding this early as there wont be much of a base to the snow if any at all. Your very likely to take out skiis, trailing arms or bogey wheels from rocks haha i've done it a few times! :D
