Saw RCMP had a couple vehicles with sled trailers stopped east of Sherwood Park on HWY 16 eastbound this morning. Ramps were down on the one trailer and I thought I saw a rider with a helmet on. Were several sleds on the trailer so wonder if they got caught riding and had to load them up to get them home. Anyone know or hear about this? I've seen some guys sledding in the ditches of HWY 16 but this is the first time this season I've seen the RC's stopping anyone.

Rcs in sherwood park are a fawking joke. They pick up brand new sleds every year to chase down sledders. This year they are on brand new etecs. Its a dedicated unit for offroad enforcement. Total that up its a 250000 a year investment. They've been doing this for a years now. This last couple years is the first they've had a dedicated setup. I've sEen there f350 bomb into the ditch at highway spEed and cutoff a family of 4 enjoying their day. Almost ended up in the slammer for stoping at that one. Either way make sure to let them know they are useless fawks wassting big $ and make sure they feel important for serving and protecting the ditches everyday. Its my mission in life to make this unit dissapear and I don't even ditch bang anymore because of it. go ride somewhere that your welcome. We've been over this before in another thread but failing to stop on an atv for a peace "officer" is a 142$ fine. So to answer your question...yes I've seen this fifty times before just make sure you know the area you ride and book it to the lake!

Yeah it was the F350 that was stopped. I've expressed my disgust to my councillor and to the dipchit that is the supervisor of enforcement at the County. He's a real piece of work I tell you. I can't belive the cops don't have anything better to do, as if sledders are a problem.

I thought the RC's were too special and important to deal with something this trivial. Thats what the renta cops or dog catchers were for.

That's exactly it. My anger comes from past experiences some may not be bothered by this but it discusts me that we have an inadequate budget for snow removal and road repairs but our rcs have top of the line sleds equipment and 2 officers wasted to this unit. A good friend of mine was killed in sherwood park a few years ago and the problem that night was that they were short of officers for the amount of issues there were. Ya so this is a soft spot

I agree. Not only is Dracona County the only County in the area that doesn't allow riding in road ditches, but they spend 100s of k of our tax money on extra officers and their equipment chasing down those bad sledders and quadders. I know I sleep better at night knowing those guys are out there doing a bang up job to make Dracona County safer.

Yes the rc's should be out there locking up meth dealer an crack dealers. Ibet they are. are money an there time could be utilized in alot better places than stopping sledders in ditches. WE PAY they decide what is right bull chit . An the people that are deciding what is right an wrong for them to do should be picking the garbage out of the ditches an wokinging for a living in stead of waiting for a big fat taxs payers retirment to kick in.

Guys come out from the city and unload at the weight scales and rip up the ditch. After they are done they load up and head home BUT in the meantime complaint put into the RCMP about sledders on Hwy 16. They or the By-Law guys go out and ticket ther first person they see. Now they have done their good deed of the day and can go home and report they caught snowmobilers. $500.00 in fines later.

This really is an apparent waste of tax dollars however the responsibility for this action does not reside with the RCMP. The one's clearly to blame for this sort of activity is the local town/county council itself. They are the ones that set the enforcement priorities for the RCMP who are in fact contracted by the municipalities.

If you want to affect change, make your voices heard loud and clear at the council meetings. In the event you are stopped by the RCs, the more courteous you are with them the better the chances of being cut some slack .. after all they're doing their job ... and everyone has a boss.

Go after the bosses folks!

I totally agree about the RC's in Sherwood Park! Sounds like the ass hat Peace officer that caught myself and daughter on a '86 Safari 377 in Parkland Village as weekend. Got pulled over cuz i didnt have a helmet on (200 ft from my house)! Sled has reg and ins, daughter had helmet on...travelling10 km's hurting no one...dink gives me a $200 helmet ticket. I was surprised as ditch banging on hwy 16 and surrounding roads not an issue west of Edmonton...been pulled over by peace officers before but only to insure I had reg and ins

Driving their truck into the ditch in front of riders is "just doing their job"? Perhaps if they were as eager to investigate property crimes and other such things sledders wouldn't be so pissed with them. I don't think they show much "slack" in this County when it comes to sledders and quadders.

Yes, the act of driving into the ditch to cut someone off is definitely questionable ... and any video of such an act taking place would more than likely place the responsible parties into some hot water themselves.

The wearing of helmets is not mandated under AB provincial law however each municipality/county can impose their own by-laws making it a requirement.

If such is the case where you live and you're caught not wearing a helmet ... lesson learned.

But one must ponder why would you make your child wear a helmet and then proceed to not wear one yourself? A classic example of "do as I say, not as I do"

i also have to laugh in the summer time. i live on range road 204 and highway 14 and at least once every 2 weeks 2 officers make a pass through my subdivision on 2 atvs. DRIVING ON THE ROAD. looking for atvers in the ditch. now personally having lived out there for 20 years i see roughly 1-2 atvs riding the ditch every summer. let alone off the highway. thats it. it just isnt as common as the sleds. this to me is an even bigger waste

should call them in and report them for riding an off highway vehicle on the road. shouldn't matter who you are it is the law we should all be held accountable to it. imo

If people would quit riding down the meridian on Highway 16, it would would be safer for all of us!!:nono:.

Still hoping the new Strathcona County elected officials will wise up and open a corridor through the county.
